Our group read for February is The Colour by Rose Tremain. Please join the read and put any comments on this thread.
I read this book a few years ago and enjoyed it very much so I'll be interested to see what others think of it.

Hunh, I read it 8 years ago - didn't seem like that long ago! I liked it but don't remember a lot about it.

All her other books look good too. I have Sacred Country on hold as well.

Couldn't for the life of me fathom why this was on the 1001 books list.

>4 arukiyomi: Hmm, looking forward to it even more now! It will be interesting to see what everyone thinks. I haven't read any of her books before.

I'm reading this - about half way through. I really like it. It's a familiar genre for me - historical fiction with an interesting setting and strong female characters.

I have a copy from the library but other books are taking precedence right now. I plan on getting to it soon.

I have completed The Colour and found it to be a well-written, strong historical fiction novel. The author excels in character development and I found each character that she introduced had valuable input to the story. This was the first book by this author that I have read, and now I am planning on definitely reading more.

If you like that sort of stuff, then can I recommend Kristin Lavransdatter off the list? You'll utterly lose yourself in that. Undset didn't win a Nobel for nothing.

Just finished this book and agree with the other commenters that it was a well-written novel. I found the sub plot with Pare did not quite work for me but the rest was excellent. (Just a side note that I wish she hadn't killed off Harriet's dog. I have a soft spot for Border Collies and it didn't seem right to me that Lady would just stand at the side of the river when she heard the flood waters coming.)

I finished this book last Night and found it pretty disappointing. I didn’t really believe any of the characters and therefore didn’t care for them either.
Not terrible but just seems like any other average historical novel, so I don’t get why it’s on the list.
