So ... I was posting a heap of fantasy covers I love https://www.librarything.com/topic/285435, but more often than not I've had to get different sets of editions to complete my series. I notice - especially in the last century, that UK and US editions had different covers.
So please post your own different versions of the same book. Which version do you prefer (if any)?

I thought that the Orbit versions (UK) of the Wheel of Time books were more refined than the Tor versions (US) but now that I compare them, maybe it's just the title graphics.
ETA: I believe the cover art is by Darryl Sweet.

>1 humouress: I often find myself envying the UK covers. One example I remember somewhat recently is the vast difference between the Slade House US and UK covers

I guess publishers know what they're doing, but the Malazan series suffered when it went to the USA far as I'm concerned.
The mood of the UK covers is a great match for what these fantasy novels evoke when read, whereas the USA covers are generic and speak to flamboyant action.
Left image = UK/Canada; Right image = USA
.
Book 5 is the worst ...

Have to say I hate it when I've bought a book and then it comes out with a new cover that I find more pleasing. Or sometimes in a new format such as size.

>6 PossMan:, or the series has been so long in getting completed, the cover style changes partway through the print run. I'm looking at you, Song of Ice and Fire.
I've also been known to be irritated when the priority of author/title switches. E.g., first couple of covers have their title at the top, the author's name underneath; then on the third or fourth book this order gets reversed. Looks messy.

Couldn't agree more when it's likely the titles are closely connected as in the Games of Thrones books. A bit different with some very long-running series such as Penguin Classics where the books have little in common apart from being ... well "classics". BTW I recently got The Penguin Classics Book which is a lovely book showing the changing cover styles since early days in the 1940s. I quite some of the very austere early covers from those which were almost entirely plain text.

>5 Cecrow: Oh alright! With all this Malazan talk about the threads, I have succumbed and have borrowed the first one from the library to read. But it's on Overdrive, so I'll have to get back to you on what cover I've got.
