Hi, I'm Ruth.

I've felt isolated living in Parkersburg and not knowing about any activist groups locally who are concerned about environmental and social justice issues. So I was very glad to see the notice about the Marietta meeting that happened January 30th. There were perhaps 30 some people from both sides of the river attending.

Many seem to stay in touch from Facebook pages. But I don't do FaceBook. When my daughter signed me up, FB stole information from my email account which I had refused them. So I've never been back.

I hoped that LibraryThing could be a place to keep track of ideas and each other, and perhaps let more people know what is going on. So I've invited LT members who are local as well.

I've lived in Parkersburg for decades, but my kids have moved away, I commute to Ripley, working long hours, and I've bought property in Kentucky. I've spent the past few years focusing on building community in KY, which has a very rich vein of activism. But winters are spent mostly here. So I am available for working on projects, meeting people and making productive connections.

My school background is in Agriculture, and I've been doing a great deal of reading on environmental issues and experimenting with permaculture techniques.

My pet projects would be community composting and dark sky education and activism.

Hey, I attended the Town Hall Forum last evening, and proposed municipal composting. The city council candidates pretty much unanimously indicated they would be in favor of this. The County solid waste director came over and chatted with me afterwards and suggested we stay in touch.
