I was just looking through the magazine thread over at FSD:

http://www.librarything.com/topic/189500

And I thought it be interesting to see what photo magazines this group subscribes to. I'll admit I have an ulterior motive. I was a subscriber to American Photo for years, at some point I picked up hardbound back issues all the way to the name change in '90 or '91, but they ceased publication this year and I've been keeping an eye open for a replacement. Since AP stopped I've picked up subscriptions to LensWork and Shots. I have sampled both in single issues over the years, and like them both, but they're not the same type of publication.

Here are some replacements I'm thinking about:

British Journal of Photography - This seems like the most direct replacement, but it's very pricey here in the U.S.
LFI - Looks promising, but it's Leica only.
PDN - I've had a subscription to PDN previously. It's a good read but more narrowly focused.
The Photo Review - This is what I'm leaning towards. Not an exact replacement, but maybe a good change.

What is everyone else reading?

I gave up with subscribing to photography magazines when the internet became a more informative source for adverts, reviews and articles. In the past I've regularly read AP (Amateur Photographer 'not' Amateur Pornographer as it was commonly referred to in my uni photo club) and Outdoor Photographer which covered several of my areas of interest. The BJP and Black and White Photography are rather higher quality publications than either of those, but I was quite shocked to see the subscriber price of the BJP for US residents at £175; in the UK we can get an annual sub for £63 inclusive of postage. It would be an awful lot cheaper to join the Royal Photographic Society as an overseas Member £104 and receive its magazine which is the oldest (and dare I say most prestigious) magazine as part of your membership. https://youtu.be/TGnBjG2zGdA
