A good majority of the novel takes place on the Mississippi River. In a PARAGRAPH, discuss the importance of setting in "Huck Finn." How does the setting shape the plot? How does it influence the characters? Most importantly, how does the setting act as a SYMBOL throughout the story? What is it symbolic of?

The river symbolizes parts of Huck and Jim's life. The river is continuously flowing and taking them down different ways. The river is where Huck and Jim always end up. It takes them everywhere they have gone and relates to all their adventures throughout the book.

Huck and Jim are on the raft on the river and they can't really do anything. The river helps the book flow in a way. Something new and exciting always happens when they are on the river. The river may take them to places they don't know about or don't wanna go to, but they will find something new and exciting to get into.

Huck and Jim are on the river for most of the book. This helpd the story because it keeps the story going. The river is a good thing because whenever Huck and Jim get in trouble they can just get out on the river and leave. I think the river sybolizes life because they experiance bumps on the river just like you experience tough times in life.

The setting is absolutley key because the river has twistes and turn with stops along the way the river is a symbol of life and how different it can be if you just go with the flow.

The river symbolized the life that huck and jim are living, it is flowing like a river and there may be ups or downs or currents of bad but they keep on truckin and keep on moving on and making the best of what they have.

I think the setting of Huck Finn is very importatnt because without it, the book would be much different. Like from Huck and Jims raft breaking to seeing other men on the river doing exactly what they are doing. They are like on that river for a reason and it is showing us that it is a symbol to nothing coming there way unless they make something happen in the future.

The setting is very important, especially in places such as the Mississippi River because it guides Huck Finn and Jim to their new adventures. It is crucial to shaping the plot because it makes sure that the characters are at the right place at the right time for certain things to happen. It influences the characters by making them decide on wise decisions, giving them many options for what they could do next, and by having them meet new people that alter the decisions they would have originally made. The setting is a symbol which symbolizes Huck and Jim's lives which are full of change and new locations.

The river has EVERYTHING to do with the story. The Mississippi River takes Huck places, by guiding him down different paths. It the wind is strong the current leads him different directions. It makes all the advents that happen in the story occur. I think the River is the symbol of Hucks path in life, its leading him to make different choices everyday. I helps make him who he is.

In the story without the river this would be no adventure. Huck and Jim would just be wandering the woods. They have different paths and this makes it more intense. Because of different climate changes how the have to try and survive on the river as a storm comes through. Or there canoe tips over. This river is a symbol of adventure. It takes them down different roads of life. Ups and downs. It shows how huck is as a preson by showing he is a leader finding his way through the woods ona river. I makes the story flow and shows the more adventure part of the novel.

The river represents how Huck and Jim can flow different ways down the river just like they can flow many different paths through life and have new adventures and it shows how they have ups and downs but they move on.

when Huck misses the turn to where thier supposed to go in the fog. This means when you are supposed to go one way in life and you end up going the other way and it dosent really matter what way you went.

they cant control where they are going or how fast they go because it all depends on where the river takes them. and without the river there wouldent be asmany adventures and wouldent be as exciting.

The river is a big part of the setting becaus it practically is the setting the entire book. I think the river symbolizes the fate of Jim and Huck. They have no way of navigating the reaft, like fate. They go wherever the river taked them. The river also represents freedom because it is the only way Huck and Jim can be free.

The river is the path of life which huck and jim have chosen at times it crests and they have everything they want and need and other times it just stays low and they have to rough it out and other times it just moves so fast that they forget where they are even.

The river symbolizes freedom because it always takes them in the path to get to the free states and its a path to shape the rest of the story and they would of never did the thing they did

The river represents the river of life. This river is continously flowing and pushing you down. The river brings Huck and Jim to many different events and helps them learn lessons about themselves. The river will bring you toils and heartbreaks but in this story huck learns to stay strong and that the "river" gets smoother and gets better.
