Halo: The Fall of Reach

Eric Nylund

Chapters 1-5

This is the first book in the series

SPOILER ALERT

I am reading this book online and it dosen't have page numbers so i am using chapters, i am reading it from this site called ePubbud.

The characters in this book are John, Sam , Kelly, Sergant Mendez, Dr. Hasley, Lieutant Jacob Keyes. John is the main character is Halo so far, when he was twelve John was taking away from his parents and his long voyage from his home planet to his new home named Reach. Reach is a military research complex were the UNSC does it's research on children that they have selected from different planets around the galaxy. In John's group of kids there are seventy five kids that had the same fate as John being taken from the parents and friends. Dr. Hasley talk's to DoJo who is an AI who was personally made for her, she represents a Roman god dressed in a robe and with sun glowing in her hair. John is turned into a Spartan when Dr. Hasley preforms her Surgery on him, The process

1. Carbide ceramic ossification:advanced material grafting onto skeletal structures to make bones
virtually unbreakable. Recommended coverage not to exceed 3 percent total bone mass because of
significant white blood cell necrosis. Specific risk for pre- and near-postpubescent adolescents: skeletal
growth spurts may cause irreparable bone pulverization. See attached case studies.

2.Muscular enhancement injections: protein complex is injected intramuscularly to increase tissue
density and decrease lactase recovery time. Risk: 5 percent of test subjects experience a fatal cardiac
volume increase.

3. Catalytic thyroid implant:platinum pellet containing human growth hormone catalyst is implanted in
the thyroid to boost growth of skeletal and muscle tissues. Risk: rare instances of elephantiasis.
Suppressed sexual drive.

4. Occipital capillary reversal:submergence and boosted blood vessel flow beneath the rods and cones
of subject's retina. Produces a marked visual perception increase. Risk: retinal rejection and detachment.
Permanent blindness. See attached autopsy reports.

5. Superconducting fibrification of neural dendrites:alteration of bioelectrical nerve transduction to
shielded electronic transduction. Three hundred percent increase in subject reflexes. Anecdotal evidence
of marked increase in intelligence, memory, and creativity. Risk: significant instances of Parkinson's
disease and Fletcher's syndrome.

I think their are moral's because over half the kids didn't make and ended up being twisted in half or in wheel chairs with over sized brains. I don't think this is right cause these kids were taking from there parents and families and over half of them are dememted and can't move anymore. I would personally recomend this book to anyone one who likes Sci-fi and Military themed books.

Halo: The Fall of Reach

Eric Nylund

Chapters: 5-20

Commander key's was guarding a planet when the covenant sent 4 ships to exterminate the planet. Commander Key's shot off his shiva nuke and armed his MAC guns, Key's rushed the head ship and it's homing plasma torpedos hit the destroyer and took out it's shields. Key's turned his ship around and detonated the shiva nuke and lauched his MAC's and Archer Missle's upon the remaining frigates, which in the end took them out. The Covenant carrier escaped and landed 34 Drop ships on to the planets surface. The Covenant forces wiped out the ground troops and there are 9 survivor out of 50,000 Marines.

My opinion on this part of the story is Commander Key's was heroic on his actions of taking on 4 covenant ships and destroying 3 of them which has never been done before for the UNSC.
