O. K. so now is the time we gardeners put down the books and start planting. My book money is going into plants.

Today I am planting some annuals:
White cleome
stock (for the scent!)
salvia - I have about 4 new varieties to try
(I'll post their names later today)
ganzia
rosemary

It's an eclectic group but I like all the plants.

Are you planting instead of reading? Do you keep a garden journal?

I don't keep a journal, but I do have a file and if anything stands out I keep the plastic label from the pot. Also, if any particular combinations turn out especially well I staple the labels together.

Last night I bought a pile of things to put in containers and did some potting-up. Nothing outstanding - bacopa, bidens, some other stuff I've forgotten the names of. Some pink and some red.

I will be interested to hear which salvias you got. In the last year or so I've really fallen in love with them, both annual and perennial varieties.

We have a long weekend coming up but the weather is supposed to suck all weekend so I've been planting as much as I can before the rain (and possibly snow, arrgh) hits. If snow, I'll shove all the pots in the garage.

I am planting AND reading. Thank goodness for late night hours - or I don't think my back could withstand the spring season!

I have been planting my pots and got my vegetable garden started. I LOVE doing pots. Talk about instant gratification. They are beautiful now and will be more so later. Gratification with a vegetable garden is quite a bit more elusive. But I did learn something new this year about cucumber plants. I have always planted them in "hills" as directed but never knew why. Recently I read it is because they can't withstand sitting in dampness - so you make hills to be sure that all the rainwater runs off.

And no, I don't keep a gardening journal, but that would be an excellent idea. Too bad I'm too lazy. By this time next year I won't have any recollection of why I plant my cucumbers on hills!!!

>3 happilyeverafters: I hear you about your back! I am supposed to be retired from landscaping but I seem to have been sucked back in again this year - I haven't made it past 9 PM yet this season -so sore! We are still in the pansy-cool weather cycle. I will get to my summer annuals in a few days. I love pots too!

Tardis - I will get you the name of those salvias soon - promise! They are doing well!

>4 florahistora: florahistora: no rush - I won't have space for them until August anyway :)

I got all my planting done this past long weekend as the weather forecasters were totally wrong (in a good way) about Sunday and Monday, both of which were quite nice. Did my vegetable gardens and pots, and I don't have much else this year. Which is good because I finished the weekend by spraining my left foot. Now I have an excuse to sit on my newly tidied patio after work and read and watch my plants grow :)

Of course, they're also talking frost warnings for tonight but I think I'm inner-city enough to take advantage of the heat island effect and not actually get any frost.
