Halo: The Cole Protocol

Author: Tobias S. Buckell

Pages: 1-100

This book takes place in the 26th century when alien species declare a holy war on the Humans who inhabit the planet. The aliens call themselves the Covenant which is an alliance of many alien species that have the same beliefs to rid the universe of the humans. The Covenant is lead by Prophets which are the leaders of the aliens and command them to do their bidding and destroy planet after planet. This is the last book in the Halo Series.

The main characters in this book are, Keyes is a Lieutenant, Delgado is an insurrectionists (which is someone who doesn't agree with the United Nations Space Command or the UNSC as described in the book.) Thel is a Sangheili Commander who leads a Covenant ship named Retribution's Thunder.

Keyes is escorting ODST's (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) to a drop zone, when there ship is sabatoged and a bomb goes off. Keyes is forced to take responsiblilty for the ODST's and forces them to blow a hole in the side of the ship so they can escape in crates and glide across space towards the Freighter. Thel was sleeping when assassins tried to kill him so another commander would take control over his place. Thel then finds the traitor and executes him personally.

If you are wondering, this book is from the Halo video game series. The book I am reading now is part of the video game Halo 3. I have played this game, I feel the game has parts of the story that is left out of this book, like the Flood. It may have been in the other books, so I am planning to read the whole series to find out.

Delgado is taken prisoner on the Rubble, Thel and Zhar were also taken prisoner by a Kig-Yar named Reth who is the leader of the Uggoy on Mesitite. Thel escapes by tearing apart their cots that they sleep on and sharpening a stake of metal that he found. Jai the leader of the spartan grey team is breaking Delgado out of the Rubble prison when he first meets Thel and fights him on his way. Thel then realizes that Jai was a Human super solider that attacked him and found out that the humans are trying to up there army and counter the Covenant offensive attack.

How this relates in life is when a military is losing or know that there going to be attacked they take defensive measures.

Bonifacio is Bringing Delgado to be transported to the Kig Yar ship so they can extract the navigation data from him. Reth's plan is when Bonifacio brings Delgado to him he'll kill Bonifacio and deal with Delgado himself. Delgado escapes from one of Bonifacio's guards and theatens to shoot him, but Bonifacio shoots Diego in the chest Twice which injurys him serverly. Bonifacio then shoots at Delgado but he reacts and dive's out of the way, Delgado is smart enough not to shoot inside of a damaged ship with a poor air lock. Bonifacio shuts the airlock between the two ships which leaves Delgado and Diego to survive with the ship losing air constantly, because of the gunfight. Reth the Kig Yar escapes from his ship from a escape pod and lands on his planet Mesitite were his army of Uggoy are ready to invade the rubble and move to earth and earn his spot with the Covenant as the great ruler that conquered earth and and it's inner colonies.

This reminds me of Colonial Custard in the Battle of Little Big Horn when he tried to move up the ranks in the army but ended getting killed because he did something he wasn't supposed to and payed the price.
