I wanted to start this fun thread, so if we want we can do a librarything count down in a quiet way. :)

I hope everyone has a safe and happy new years. Anyone have any plans? My family and I are probably just staying in doing nothing.

I am going to be playing apples to apples with friends. Hubby plans on drinking and I can't because there a bigger chance then normal that I am preggers. (Fingers crossed, I will find out the 3rd.)

Crossing fingers for a plus sign on your test, ladylenneth. Hope you get happy news for the new year!

The blizzard here is making hash of new year's plans - hubby's still in another state and I probably won't have the company I cooked for, so the word of the day is definitely "quiet." But on the bright side, that means I get to stay in my yoga pants, curled up on the couch with the cats a mug of soup and a good book - which isn't a half-bad way to see 2011 roll in.

That does sound like a wonderful way to start off new years right. I been debating on reading Last Sacrifice it is just sitting there caling my name. What are you going to read tonight fssuunnyysd?

Hmm - still debating. I have a Catherine Asaro's Phoenix Code started, and the Princess and the Snowbird is sitting here too, but I'm sort of leaning toward something tried and true. Something happy :)

We'll be having the traditional pork and sauerkraut dinner tomorrow and watch the Rose parade. At least it's above freezing and the snow is melting fast.

Have a great 2011!

Oh, I'm both nervous and excited for you, Melissa - I second that hope for a plus sign! Here's hoping for lovely bump sans morning sickness in the new year (I had the queasies the entire nine months - not fun.)!

I'm going to a party given by some friends of ours - the theme is Surfin' the New Year (cute!) but it's toooo cold for shorts, let alone a swimsuit. So I'm wearing a tie-dye tshirt and the heck with it. Everyone gets to put on a little skit (or sing, or recite a poem, or whatever), and the food is amazing. They have great parties.

Well, we went to bed at 930 last night. Woohoo - we're party animals! But we were awakened by thunder (!) right at 11:58, so we did in fact see in the new year before prompting dozing back off. LOL!
Happy New Year everyone!

Scaifea I was kinda in the same boat as you. After watching my husband play a video game for 5 hrs I decided to go to bed about 9. Not the best new years ever but I've never actually gone out for one before anyway.

My most memorable New Year's Eve was spend in the Castro district. Now let me tell you, they know how to party in that particular neighborhood... ;)

Otherwise, this is my typical NYE ritual, and I'm pretty happy with it, really. Not very much of a party person myself.

Happy New Year LibraryThingers. Please forgive my intrusion, but I was intigued by the idea of A Quiter Library Thing, and having been drawn in this far find myself contemplating how utterly and randomly beautiful this kind of social network can be. It is about half past one in the morning, my house is quiet, my children and partner are asleep, I have eaten and drunk too well and I am feeling absurdly positive about the new year. But as I sip my mug of tea I find myself hoping that someone called Melissa, who I have never met and who lives on the other side of the world, might be pregnant. Melissa, if kind thoughts will help, then have some from me. All the best for 2011.

PhilipPoulenc you really brought a smile to my lips with your post, thank you for the positive thoughts I really appericate it. An update on the what if news on the pregnancy though is sadly a negative but if nothing happens in the next week I will try another one. (I did test early but it was an early detection test.) I am still going to try to remain positive, my hopes will eventually come true if I do so.
