This book is an introduction to voting. From the importance of voting to the issues that may arise in politics. I would use this book as a read aloud because it tells the students the importance of voting. The students would learn about politics in other classes, but it is important to have a starting point ( )

This book is a fun informational plot book for the children to learn about voting. This book is perfect for first or second grade. The children will have fun as they try to figure out which is the most important details as we go through the book.

This book explains why people do and should vote. Great book to read for election time.

This was a great book. It explained the goal of democracy through the dialog of a dog concerning a town election for mayor. The dog explained everything that happened during an election to his friend dog as they follow one of the new candidates for mayor. The friend dog asks typical questions and the other dog answers them in a way that kids can understand. This book is informational fantasy because the dogs are talking which is not realistic but the book provides accurate information on the voting process of a democracy. ( )

I think this would be a great book to read around election time. It is important that the children know about voting and how to vote once they are old enough. I would use this book with upper elementary students. The children could vote for diffrent people to do things in the classroom as a way for them to learn how to vote. ( )

With trying times in America today, it is vital that we teach student young the importance of voting. It is a very informational text because it tells all of what the process of voting entails. Students must learn this because it will drastically help them in the future. ( )

This book is great information about how voting works. It has a great vocabulary and awesome pictures. It uses language that kids will understand and will get them excited to learn more about the government and voting process.

This book is awesome for explaining the voting process to young students in America. It is told from the perspective of a young girl whose mom is running for mayor. Throughout the book, questions are asked and the girl searches for answers. The pictures are funny and playful. The book would be a great read-aloud text for a young class learning about their country.

SUMMARY
This story introduces the election process to children. This book takes place during a mayoral election. It goes over how the politicians earn and spend money. And how they advertise. Also the mechanics of voting. Along with the registration process. The book includes in the back a glossary and a timeline of voting history.

PERSONAL REACTION
I really enjoyed reading this story and i actually learned a lot. This story would be really good for 2nd graders to learn about the election.

CLASSROOM EXTENSION
1. This could be used for students to have a election in class to see the process of it.
2. This could also be used during election time to introduce it.

This teaches students about how they can vote for leaders in their community in a fun narrative style. It is a great introductory book about voting. It starts from the campaign and goes up to Election Day.

A really excellent introduction to American election process, Vote uses two humorous canine narrators to take readers through the process of a mayoral election. Although the Electoral College is not covered since this is not a Presidential election, Christelow covers just about everything else, from how politicians earn and spend money, to how political advertising can work, to the history of American voting, to the basics of voter registration and the actual mechanics of voting. Packed with information, but far from boring or overwhelming, Vote! is the perfect book for introducing this complex topic to middle and upper grade school students.

This was a really enjoyable read about how the election process works - perfect for a 5.5 yr old. ( )

The book takes place during a mayoral election. While it is an informational book, it is told like a story. The story is told from the point of view of the candidate’s family. In the book, they explain what it means to vote and how the voting process works. It covers the history of voting in America, but in easy to understand terms. The book covers the whole voting process, from registration to the results, and even a recount. There is a description about what a mayor does. At the end of the book are a glossary and a timeline of voting history.

This was a useful book as a companion to a unit on how democracy works. The information is accurate, relevant to current events, presented with amusing characters, and easily readable to a class of students. It even provides some comprehension questions and an activity suggestion at the end of the book. My only criticism is that the students seemed to get bored towards the end. It ran a tad bit longer than their attention span. ( )

I wholeheartedly believe that it's imperative that we teach children about the importance of voting. With the freedom of democracy in the United States, we have the ability to choose who we want to lead us. It's up to use to teach our children how wonderful that freedom really is!

Eileen Christelow presents VOTE! in an easy-to-read, easy-to-understand format, with fun characters and illustrations, that will appeal to even the youngest of readers. Although they may be too young to vote, children of all ages will learn how important that right is.

VOTE! presents the mayoral race of Chris Smith and Bill Brown, two opponents who both want to lead the city. They have different platforms on which they're running, different types of families, and different agendas and reasons that they want to be mayor.

Although the book is a bit one-sided in making one candidate out to be the "good guy" and one to be the "bad guy," children will be able to get a basic understanding of how elections work.

Also of interest is the glossary of election-related terms at the back of the book, along with a timeline of voting rights, interesting facts about political parties, and additional website resources for further exploration. ( )
