A solid and terse, recently published (2012/2016) review of the Yoginis found ubiquitously in tantric texts, yantras, and practices. This book, with its focus on the "hot" and fierce aspects of Devi, is a good edifice to build from to learn more about the fundamentals of esoteric, tantric Hinduism. There are several short lists of texts for further readings, and each chapter tends toward high efficiency with the materials. Chapters include Yoginis as.... Deities, Subtle Guides, Navagraha and Constellations, Intermediate Beings, Human Yoginis, etc. The book takes on sacred geography, shamanic practices and outlines several important symbolic systems such as triads, groups of seven, etc. This is a dense and worthwhile read for those who are interested, and the translation from Italian by Christine Harris was well rendered into English, leaving important Sanskrit terms Romanized. There is much depth of understanding of these materials on display here.
