Dolf Wyllarde (1871–1950)

(d.1950) was educated at King's College, London, and trained as a journalist. She published two volumes of verse (1911, 1920) and more than forty volumes of fiction between 1897 and 1939, including As Ye Have Sown (1906), The Pathway of the Pioneer: Nous Autres (1906), Rose-White Youth (1908), Tropical Tales and Others (1909), and The Unofficial Honeymoon (1911). Lowndes's output intriguingly includes both exotic tales and more serious examinations of the predicament of single women. Little is known about her life, and she may have adopted her pseudonym for everyday purposes. She left nearly £50,000, which suggests a prosperous background, though it is just possible that she might have earned the money from writing her popular romantic novels.
