I believe I was this first to borrow this book since we added it to our collection last year but it was a great read. It tells the story of an American college student who lives with a Maasai tribe in Africa for a year. Her experiences and descriptions are fascinating and honest. She returns home and endures reverse culture shock as she transitions back into a Western lifestyle. The struggles and challenges as well as the love story that takes place in the background of this book are really interesting and a great reminder of the uneven distribution of wealth on our world and the unfortunate pitfalls of materialism. i will recommend this to my advanced intermediate readers and middle school students. Students attending a MEtoWe conference or event will enjoy this publication.… (altro)
My Maasai Life “Of all the things that Ms. Wizowaty found in the Kenyan savannah, peace is clearly the most important. Stark differences between cultures, customs, ways of life, between herself and her parents – all concern about them seems to have evaporated in the African Sun.”
