I really wanted to like this book, and the story is good, however the writing/editing isn’t. I was hoping, since I got an Early Reviewer copy, that it had not yet passed the final editing stage. However, I purchased a copy for Kindle and, much to my dismay, found the two versions to be exactly the same. If the book were re-edited, and the errors were fixed, I would be inclined to raise my rating.½

3.5-3.75 Stars
A good start to a new UK detective mystery series with likeable characters. Focused on character history and the procedural/mystery itself rather than location, I look forward to seeing how this may develop in future works. I tend to favor armchair travel fiction, but I appreciated the center where the first body is found as a more distinctive part of the setting. Lots of potential here.

When a body turns up hidden in a poly tunnel at a local community hub, D.I. Steve Wicks and his team are plunged into a murder investigation that will leave one of them in mortal danger.

Some great characters and an engrossing plot make this, first in series, police murder mystery tale fun to read. It keeps the reader flipping pages with it's easy style.

A lack of regional accents in the dialog means this could've been based anywhere in the UK rather than Wigan but this doesn't detract from the overall story
