Nicholas J. Wigman

A reprint in book form of a series of articles from the magazine 'Scale Aviation Modeller' on modelling Luftwaffe aircraft to an exceptionally high standard. The articles date from 1999 to 2001; and as such, they cover kits and accessories available then and do not reflect the advances and changes that there have been since then. In the twenty years since these pieces first appeared, plastic kits have gone through a step change in the quality and their levels of detail and complexity, such that the state-of-the-art kits described here are now considered only to be of intermediate difficulty.

Still, Nicholas Wigman's skill is considerable and this is still worth picking up if you see a copy. It has an incredibly useful table in the appendices covering German paints and their equivalent in a range of different modelling ranges.

Two minor caveats: proofreading in the first two chapters is of a low quality, and Mr. Wigman makes disparaging remarks about the treatment of the Nazi swastika in kits, calling its omission or breaking up into two separate pieces "political correctness". It is not. The swastika is a banned symbol in a number of European countries, and with good reason. Model companies have had to find ways around this problem for very many years, long before "political correctness" was ever thought up. Resourceful modellers have ways of dealing with this.
