I read this book for an in-person book discussion. I thought it was very interesting to learn the background of a company that calls Iowa home. I enjoyed each little story. The collection inspired me to do what I could to make the world a better place. I might try some container gardening because this book inspired me to grow something. I can't wait to find out what the rest of the group thought about the book.

Diane Ott Whealy recounts the story of the Seed Saver's Exchange, a nonprofit organization, which was founded by her and her husband. Diane and Kent's story is told in a series of roughly chronological vignettes--her growing up in northeast Iowa, subsequent moves to Colorado, Oregon, Kansas, Missouri and finally back to Iowa; the growth of her family; and the need for and growth of SSE. This book will really whet your appetite to grow something and to preserve antique breeds of all plants. I'm not much a gardener myself, but after reading this book I am definitely itching to get my hands dirty.
