This book has nothing new or interesting in it, except maybe the large pink spider. A hackneyed rerun of a USA run amok 30 years after a meteor strike. Full of oddities, like the hero eating rice cakes in the San Bernardino desert where there is no rice. Another example of someone trying to turn a videogame idea into a novel. I will not read the next 5 parts.

I'm a huge fan of 'end of the world' type of movies, love dystopia, yet I don't really read 'end of the world' books. So I was thrilled to snag this book for free from amazon and began reading it immediately.

It's a fast, quick read - fairly short - and took me about 90 minutes to read.

There's some grammatical errors and the book is in need of a better editor. Large portions of the book just seemed written by an amateur, and the premise is lacking. The author, West, does a lot of "telling" in the book instead of "showing", and leaves a lot open to the imagination instead of really setting the scene for us.

There's a fair mix of genres in the book - end of the world, zombies, meteors, bad guys, action, etc. There's not really any new ideas or themes, but all in all, it's not a bad read (especially for free).

I won't be buying the rest of the series, but would probably read the next one if I could pick it up for free again.

The Wasteland Chronicles -Book 1, 2 & 3 The Wasteland Chronicles Omnibus by Kyle West includes the first 3 books of a 7 book series. The first three books are -Apocalypse, Origins & Evolution. All three books are fantastic! It's about a post-apocalyptic world after the U.S. was hit by this huge meteor called Ragnarok that also carried a deadly virus called Xenovirus. As the virus spreads, the survivors that were living in Bunkers have been forced to live in the harsh wasteland. This was really another pleasant surprise that I found in the Kobo store. It's pretty action packed and the pacing is on point and the stories are good lengths-not too long, not too short. Another good thing about it is - it's free! The first three books, The Wasteland Chronicles Omnibus, are actually free so if you like dystopia/post-apocalyptic survival stories you should check it out. I know Amazon & Kobo both have it.

A really great start of a series! I'll definitely be continuing on to book #2!

The Wasteland Chronicles Book 2 This is the second book of the series, The Wasteland Chronicles. This series just keeps getting better and better. I liked this one just as much, if not more, then the first. The author's writing seems to be really developing and this story is more polished then the first. Once I start reading his books, I don't want to put them down. There is never a dull moment, the characters are likeable and unique and the setting/landscapes they traverse are pretty cool. I'm really glad I came across this series on Kobo. The first three of seven books are free on Kobo and Amazon which was even better but I'm definitely buying and reading the last four books too.

The Wasteland Chronicles Book 3 In Book 3, Evolution, the Wasteland survivors, Samuel, Alex, Anna, Makara  & Dr. Ashton, are continuing their preparations for their final battle to stop the Xenovirus and save the Wasteland and the entire planet. This was another awesome story. The series just keeps getting better and better. There is always lots of action so you'll never get bored reading this series. Also, in each book West has thrown in unique curves in the plot that I didn't see coming. There are also setting changes in each book that were unexpected but very cool. He definitely keeps you on your toes which is one reason I like his writing style so much. I can't wait to see what he has in store for us in the next book, Revelations.

The Wasteland Chronicles Book #4- 3.5 stars....

I would have to say this was my least favorite of the series. It was still good but there was just a lot of info about the higher alien race they are battling, how they evolved, what they believe, what their ultimate goals are for the world etc. It was just a little too out there but once the story progressed past that info dump then it picked right back up. Looking forward to the next book...

The Wasteland Chronicles Book #5 ...4.5 stars

In Darkness, book #5, the survivors are moving west, looking for shelter for their ever growing forces. They are trying to find a bunker that meet their needs and one that's hopefully not taken over by the Xenovirus. They were dealt a couple blows in this one but they also dealt a few too. I'm ready for the final battle to get here to see how it all goes down.

The Wasteland Chronicles Book 6 of 7- 4.5 stars...

This has been such a thrilling ride with tons of ups & downs and twists & turns so I know I'm going to be sad to see it end.  All good things must come to an end though and the final, big battle to save Earth and all of humanity is just about upon us- our Humans & the Elekai against the Radaskim, otherwise known as Xenofall. The Wanderer's prophecy insisted that all the warring factions must unite first if they want to have any chance in defeating the Radaskim. This is no easy feat though when there are multiple leaders and agendas in play. The Radaskim have also turned their attacks up a notch and are preparing a surprise of their own. I'm hopeful though that we'll be ready for them...Xenofall here we come! : )

The Wasteland Chronicles Book 7 of 7....

So I've finally reached the end of the Wasteland saga... Xenofall was a story about the final battle to save the Wasteland and all of humanity from the Radaskim. I really can't go into any more detail then that without giving away how it ended but I will say the whole series was really good. I thought it wrapped up nicely. If you enjoy sci-fi, dystopia, a little horror & a lot of action, then this a great series to try. I think Kyle West is one of those underrated authors who deserves a lot more recognition then he gets. He really has a nice writing style. I'm glad I came across him on Kobo or I wouldn't have even known he existed. There is a follow up series to The Wasteland Chronicles that I definitely plan to read & I'll be keeping my eye out for anything else he comes out with.

As a boxed set, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the three books at a single setting - over 550 pages of adventure. None are stand alone stories, but continue where the last one left off. There were places where the story bogged down, especially when Alex beccame obsessed with rescuing the two girls from his group when they are kidnapped. Nothing else seemed to matter except trying to rescue them, which caused me to skim through those chapters. The foursome are awesome fighters and manage to escape and kill dozens of monsters in situations that appear hopeless with no escape.

They discover that the virus arrived with a meteor that struck central United States twenty years earlier. A wall of fungus over 100 feet tall is expanding and detroying everything in its path clearly having the ability to cover the entire planet in time.. Dozens of bunkers, which were developed in preparation for the meteor devestation began to fall as the virus spread. Some survivors escaped, others were killed or turned into slaves when attackedd by gangs ruling the wasteland. There was no central government left, only small outposts of Raiders and other small groups trying to survive in the wastelands. Four survivors with different backgrounds come together in hopes of finding data in other bunkers that may hold the secret for destroying the virus.

The spread of the blight tranforms people and animals into vile creatures with super strength that kill everything they come across. One warlord of a Mexican settlement wants to rule the world. He calls himself the emperor and has fashioned his kingdom after the Roman Empire - sending his legions north to conquer and grow his empire.

The foursome soon find an ally, a known scientist who spent years working on the virus. He also has access to weapons and information that could end the apocalypse. Together, they attempt a seemingly impossible task of getting all the warring groups to join forces and battle the virus without getting killed or made slaves themselves. For others, however, the cost of joining forces with the Empire - the strongest of them all, will be too expensive and cost them the freedom they currently enjoy. However, without their help, there is no hope to succeed.

Exciting with edge of your seat suspense. The story does take place in our future and is entirely plausable. Four more books remain in the series, but a little too expensive for me to purchase individually. I'll wait until they're avaialbe as another boxed set to see the outcome.

This book has been in my queue for awhile but the wait was worth it. The edition I read was and omnibus of books 1-3. [Kyle West] has created a terrifying view of the future in [The Wasteland Chronicles]. The idea of not being able to escape fate seems to be a main theme in this entertaining, fast past post apocalyptic series.

Updating my reviews here. You can find the dates I started and finished this book and the review for this book on my BookLikes.

It was an interesting take on the virus zombie apocalypse, but it was poorly done. Poor grammar, spelling... it was like reading a high school student's first draft. This was a freebie on Amazon, and the only reason it got two stars instead of one was that it was free. Had I paid for this crap, I would have been incredibly angry.

In APOCALYPSE it is the year 2060 and most of humanity have been decimated by the xenovirus. It is both deadly and contagious. It affects both plants and animals. The few people who remain on the earth must fight to survive as most supplies are in short demand. A few people were lucky enough to get into underground bunkers when everything began and now their descendants live in luxury compared to the outside world. The problem is that now only four of the bunkers remain and the virus seems to be finding its way inside them.

As the story opens Alex has just turned 16 and is taking his first recon trip to the Wasteland with Michael. The Wasteland is the earths surface and everyone must work in the bunkers. They are on patrol when they find an injured man from another bunker lying on the side of the road. Michael radios it in, as Alex sees a wastelander watching them. Instead of telling Michael, he keeps quiet as he knows that Michael will kill the wastelander as they need to keep their bunker location secret. It is this secrecy which has allowed them to survive this long. Meanwhile, they carry the man back to the bunker and eventually the infection escapes and the bunker is lost. Alex is the only one to escape the infection. Now it is his turn to see what life is like as a wastelander and find a cure for the deadly xenovirus, when all he really wants is just to live normally once more.

This story was surprisingly really well written and it flew by, once I had the chance to sit down and read without interruption. As with most good stories, the reader is drawn in and before he knows it he has reached the end of the story. The characters, although teens/young adult, for the most part are interesting and involving, no matter what your age. To me, the author has developed a unique idea for the zombie infection and it works because in this day and age, you know that there are so many new bugs out there. It is a new possibility and the way the earth is destroyed isn't when the meteor hits, it's the affect it has afterward.

Think Fallout (any of the games) meets Jeremiah meets Thunderdome & a touch of Eli...whip it up with xenosludge into a slurry with a side of Escape from LA and Zombieland & some good old fashioned alien unknown 195-60 genre conventions ... Ya!

Quick paced, nothing really new. Though the return of old B-movie and PA is comfortable, having everything piled in with zombies is a bit much.

A decent entertainment and beach read for enthusiasts of all the above. If it was a movie, Rifftrax would love it!!
