- He served as Professor of Church History in the School of Religion at Butler University (Indianapolis, Indiana) from 1928 to 1950. He served as President of Milligan College in Johnson City, Tennessee from 1950 to 1968 and as Chancellor at Milligan from 1968-1988. He was President of the European Evangelistic Society beginning in 1944 until 1974. Additionally, he was President of Emmanuel School of Religion from 1965 to 1969. Also, while at Emmanuel, he served as Professor of Church History until 1983.
