Gabrielle M. Vassal (1880–1959)

Gabrielle Vassal was an Englishwoman who married Dr. Joseph M. Vassal, a French physician. She accompanied her husband on his postings as head of Health Services to remote places in French Equatorial Africa and Indochina, and kept an extensive diary. She later published several books about her experiences in French and English under her married name. Countess von Hoenstadt may have been a pseudonym she used in her letters, or it may have been a different person altogether.
