I love this book. With history told through postcards, the reader can see what was important to the area. From railroads to cotton mills to agriculture, it is here. Travel via Highway 301 and later I-95 spawned restaurants and hotels. The grand houses of the area are documented. Not forgotten is the rich heritage of education, including Flora MacDonald, the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (as Pembroke State University), St. Andrews, and area schools. The military had direct ties with the county with bases in Maxton and Camp Mackall. Of course religion played a huge part in the life of the county. The book steps outside the county for the residents' amusements including nearby lakes and (of course) South of the Border.

The book does an excellent job of covering the entire county. Anyone with ties to the county or who likes postcards would enjoy this book.
