Getting It Wrong: in the introduction to this collection of photographs of the old NER through the years, Paul Drew comments about Raven's plans for electrification in the 1920s, "In the event, there was no 1.5 kV electrified main line for No.13 to run on, and the possibility of electrifying the East Coast main line even now seems remote."

It was done within twenty years.
