I took this book with me to the 2021 Cheltenham Cricket Festival. It is all about leg arm bowler Jack White who played for Somerset and England and is very much forgotten. As well as charting his outstanding county and international career and his personality, the author provides many digressions, anecdotes and pertinent comments, for instance, about the passage of time and status of the moment: ‘these last three [Johnny Wardle, Phil Edmonds and Phil Tufnell, slow left arm bowlers] are remembered more because they have played relatively recently than because they were great bowlers’ (page 119). How true this is! Another reason for reading this book was the section (pages 126-128? about Gloucestershire's B.D. 'Bomber' Wells about whom anecdotes abound.
