This fine book covers the first 65 years of Lincoln Christian College and Seminary, founded in 1944 and which is to be renamed Lincoln Christian University on September 1, 2009.

The primary author, Thomas M. Tanner, discusses four scripture texts ("verses") from the New Testament that he believes serve as undergirding for the establishment and continuation of the school. He then moves ahead with chapters on "voices" (presidents and professors) that tell the school's history from its establishment to the present day.

Tanner enlists the aid of four others to author chapters on the "voices" (trustees, values, past, and roots) that provide additional perspectives on the distinctiveness of the school. I found Wayne Shaw's discussion of the seminary's becoming accredited by the ATS and regional accrediting bodies particularly interesting.

The authors are alumni and are or were associated the school in an administrative and/or faculty capacity.

The book includes appendices that lists names and years of service for faculty, trustees, residence halls, and facilities. The appendices also include the mission of the school, words and music to the school song, and the school's connection to the military. The book includes a number of photos that enhance the value and enjoyment of the book. In addition, there is a supplemental DVD with audio and video clips, and photos.

Alumni/ae of LCCS are certain to enjoy the book, but it should be found valuable by anyone who interested in the Stone-Campbell religious heritage, particularly those who are interested in the delivery of biblical higher education in the Christian Church/Church of Christ stream.
