I like autobiographies. If the author is a famous person it’s a way to discover his/her daily life, his/her tastes, the people he/she met. If the person is unknown, his autobiography is for me an opportunity to follow another life, something like meeting someone during a trip and listening to his story. That’s why I enjoyed reading George Stratford’s book.

The story starts when Stratford is in his fifties and has just lost his job. He has to change his life, to start again his career. First he undertakes a course of study, then after a successful stage in London and a few days without money and home he is hired by a famous advertising agency as copywriter. He publishes a novel, he participates to some popular TV broadcasts to tell his experience of temporary homeless, he gets married with a young girl he met for chance in Paddington station.

Ain’t finished yet it’s a story about chance, about career in the media, about writing for success (economic success, first of all). That’s all. In Stratford’s autobiography you hardly find characters or feelings. Even when he happens to meet again his brother after many years, (just in the middle of the book) he doesn’t think about the consequences and the meaning of this experience. When Stratford writes about a travel in South Africa, he doesn’t tell us anything about that Country. He is interested only in selling his book (by the way, you can find it on Amazon).

So thank you George Stratford: for a woman in her fifties as I am your story is good, it gives hope and self-confidence. But please go on in writing: and this time about feelings, the people you met, the travels you enjoyed.
