The sociology of sex and sexuality is perhaps one of the newest fields within sociology, and this textbook, edited by faculty members from Georgia State University is a terrific introduction to sex studies. Included are over 62 essays from a variety of sources: from major studies and theories to personal essays. Readers therefore get many perspectives within the field. The selected essays also cover a variety of topics, from sexual discourses to the sex industry, as well as sexual violence and sexual disease--all within a very sociological paradigm. Also included are interviews with sex researchers and short clips of facts and ideas. What is missing, however, are perhaps the foundational texts within the sociology of sexuality, such as Judith Butler, Michel Foucault, and Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick. A great introduction to the sociology of sexuality, and full of statistics and insights that would be good for everyone to know. None of the pieces are dry or dull, and yet all of them are well-researched and cited.
