Eloise is delighted with her opportunity to go to Hollywood, the land of sun and stars. She begins by detailing how one must prepare for such an amazing trip. Lavished with special treats and VIP service when Eloise arrives she is shocked with some of the "different" traditions that Hollywood holds, such as putting your feet in cement and signing your name. Then she gets the grand opportunity to go to a movie set and be treated like a real movie star! Eloise soaks up every moment of her rich Hollywood journey and feels that she has now found what she wants to do as a living, be a director!

UGGGHHHHHH. Who allowed this garbage to be printed. First off there is the racist remark about train robbing Indians. And the way she describes things. It’s like all the bad things are fabulous. Then the story is so long and never ending. And Eloise is a BRAT! You want to yell at her to SHUT UP! Please burn this book, because Kay Thompson is turning over in her grave.

Illustrations get 5 stars. I always feel like Eloise books are for adults. The kids get drawn into the pictures but the text is full if references to adult things. This one , NOT written by Kay Thompson but just inspired by, was uncomfortable to read aloud to my kids. Halfway through I ended up making up my own words to go with the story.
Cringe worthy quote, "If your mother is even one-half worth her salt, then sooner or later she's bound to make the acquaintance of a famous Hollywood Movie Mogul who will insist you simply must must must drop in for a visit." Am I the only one who sees something inappropriate implied in that statement?

Review: This book is about a little girl named Eloise who travels with her grandma from New York to Hollywood so that Eloise can star in a movie. In this story Eloise talks about all the famous things that people do and see when they are visiting Hollywood. Eloise stays in a fancy hotel called Hollywood Hills Hotel where all the stars stay when they visit Hollywood. Eloise loves being in the glitz and glamor of Hollywood. When she goes to the screening of the movie she is in she gets bored because she is not the main character and she is only on screen for a short time. Eloise knows that it is just the beginning of her career and that she is going to be very famous someday just like her mother is.

Genre: Realistic Fiction
Genre Critique: Everything that happens in this book could happen in real life. Most children would not be able to relate to Eloise because she is raised by her nanny because her mom is a famous movie star and she is very wealthy. Children would be able to relate to Eloise in that some kids dream of being movie stars just like Eloise does. Eloise is a normal girl with two pets that she takes absolutely everywhere with her.
