I love the idea of upcycling and repurposing materials. That said, this is not what I was looking for, nor does it share my aesthetic taste. This book does a good job of introducing book-binding techniques and perhaps inspiring book-like art. For those looking for a guide to make practical handmade books, this is not it.

The instructions were difficult to follow - they needed more photos or illustrations to make them clear. It was a nice bit of inspiration for hobby book binding.

Creative ideas

Pretty. Complicated. Pretty complicated and lovely to look at. But not going to make any of these suckers any time soon.

While the projects in this book are pretty cool, I started to feel like I was out of my depth. This seems more geared to the serious artist, rather than the crafty dabbler. The book projects mix book binding with such crafts as crochet, jewelry making, and clay work. The books are beautiful.

I will probably never make a book cover out of an old hot-water bottle, but "Re-bound" is a great way to get those creative juices flowing. You'll never look at your junk and recyclables the same way again.

The bath rug idea journal is inspiring, not for its reuse of the old textile so much as for its 3D mind-map approach to organizing and keeping your ideas.

Jeannine Stein also offers this word to the wise: "Check with family members before deconstructing their possessions."

This is a beautifully put together book and a must have for someone just beginning to explore the world of hand made books. Easy, clear instructions and great photos of each project. Materials are easy to gather also. Try it, you'll love it.
