Pearl Sofaer

This is a self-published book -- it could have used some outside editing. The author is a Baghdadi Jew whose family (both her own and extended family) lived in India for many years before and during Partition. This book is a collection of family anecdotes and recipes. At times it was a bit confusing trying to keep track of all the relatives -- a basic family tree would have been helpful. Still, I found this book to be charming, and full of interesting tidbits -- I wasn't aware that there was once a strong Jewish community in Bombay -- history often emphasizes the Muslim and Hindi factions there. The family recipes featured are mostly a fusion of Iraqi-Indian cuisines. A few I'll have to try sometime.… (altro)
