This book is all about vehicles and their functions. I like this book because it explains all the purposes of different cars. It's useful because children may think that all cars are the same and they may not give it much thought, but this book offers a wider perspective. For example, it describes how sports cars are designed for speed, some cars have big tires for muddy trails, police motorcycles help police workers to easily weave throughout traffic in emergencies, and big trucks have more wheels than usual to hold its weight. The book also includes information on vehicles with specific jobs like ambulances and snow plows. This book can be used for guided reading because it is an informational text with unknown vocabulary and the child may need assistance with comprehending all the information. The text features like the table of contents, photographs, and glossary can also be studied in guided reading.

I recently read this book to my students and it was very appropriate for their needs. They are still learning to brush their teeth on their own and the author did a good job of pointing out the reasons to brush your teeth. The steps for brushing your teeth are also included in the story with a picture of a child doing that step. The text is also very minimal, but to the point. This is beneficial for my students, but if teachers have higher students, they can add in more details if they would like. There is also a comprehension question at the end for students to discuss and answer.

This book from National Geographic was very informative and enjoyable. I enjoyed the complex text features and the informative writing. Text features make or break a nonfiction, informational book and in the case of Desert Animals, the text features made it. There was bolded text, intense photographs, captions to accompany them, complex diagrams, and much more. These text features made this informational text much more enjoyable and interesting to the reader. I loved being able to see a diagram of how animals dig burrows in the desert to stay cool and photographs of intense desert animals like horned lizards and Arabian camels. The text features really help the reader learn new things about desert animals while staying interested. I also loved the informative writing within this book. It was very detailed and to the point so that readers were learning about these animals in a concise manner. In the Desert Animal Encyclopedia at the end of the book there is a title with the animal’s name, brief bullets describing crucial facts, and then a thorough descriptive paragraph with more information. The writing was professional and informative and great for children who were interested in learning about these types of animals. The main idea of this book was to teach readers about animals in the desert and their habitats. Altogether this story was informative and interesting for readers.

"Screws, Nuts, and Bolts" is an informational book that describes different toys that require screws, nuts, and bolts. This book describes the screws, nuts, and bolts job in each toy, as well as how to turn the screws, and to tighten or loosen the nuts and bolts.

This is a wonderful interactive book about grasshoppers. It asks questions and gives a lot of information about grasshoppers without being boring or over the top. Children would love this book because the reader could stop on every page to interact with the children without losing the message.
