In 1981, another interest, gardening, was instrumental in producing Simply Living: A Gatherer's Guide to New Zealand's Fields, Forests and Shores. During the voyage on Swanhilde, the author spent a considerable time around the South Pacific, and with her insatiable appetite both for learning and for good food, she sampled and questioned until the secrets of South Pacific cuisine gently unfolded.
