I liked the book “In Search of the Thunder Dragon” for several reasons. First, this book provides a great multicultural journey for children. Students can learn a lot about Asian culture and Buddhism because the plot is about the ancient story of the Thunder Dragon. A young girl, Amber, and her cousin set off on a journey to discover the mysteries of the dragons. The ancient story is that the Thunder Dragons play hide-and-seek in the clouds during big winter storms. The plot is very engaging and well-paced. The characters the children meet along the way are also very interesting. For example when they meet the Tiger, “Oh, most beautiful, strong fly Tiger, we are looking for the Thunder Dragons, and we were told by the oldest monk in the monastery that you know where they hide.” Finally, the illustrations most definitely enhance the story and are appropriate to the mood of the story. The colors are contrasting, but are whimsical and creative. The big idea of this book is to tell children about the ancient tale of the Thunder Dragon and teach children about culture.… (altro)
