Jim Shockey

I started this book with some trepidation as I know that Jim Shockey is a videographer who happens to be a well-known hunter in Canada. What drew me to it was his loving tribute to his wife Louise who passed away in 2023. The book started out fairly well, and it kept my interest, but then the story shifted to depraved acts and unbelievable and convoluted coincidences. I persevered, but it was very difficult. The conspiracy and overseeing group called Our World is an interesting concept. The fact that this group was responsible for hiding and hoarding unimaginably valuable works of art, is believable in this dissolute world of ours today. It was the twisted and convoluted plot that made me lose interest. I continued to read, but when the ending left everything in the air, it turned me off of this book and why I gave it one star. Call Me Hunter by Jim Shockey was a very good thriller. I am not sure what category of thriller to put it in since it includes a mystery, art theft, murder, and some aspects of a psychologic thriller. The story is about a young woman in North Carolina receiving a package with a manuscript from an unknown sender. The story revolves around her search for the author and verifying the information in the manuscript. She is an orphan who knows nothing of her birth parents or location. This is also part of the story. There are a number of historic events all related to art, art acquisition/theft/sales, and people associated with the manuscript.

This book was hard to put down. When I started the novel, I was not sure that this book fell into the usual categories that I like. But after about 30 minutes of reading, I wanted to finish the book as quickly as possible. The story just hooked you that quick.… (altro)
