Breve biografia
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

To his surprise and delight, he found a warm and welcoming audience in the world of online serialized fiction. Transitioning his work into actual books, he is continually startled at the appetite for his particular blend of high magic, wild adventure and absurd nonsense.

Success has allowed him to fund an excessive board game collection he doesn't have time to play because he's always writing. The unplayed games sit on the shelves behind him as he works, silently judging.

Fun read, and the narrator was nice to listen to as well. Entertaining enough, but I don't think I'll continue the series. I did like that one of the characters who seemed unlikeable ended up being quite nice. Something of a subverted expectation.

I am excited to share my thoughts on “He Who Fights With Monsters”, the first installment in a captivating epic fantasy series by author known by the pen name Shirtaloon. Readers, prepare to be whisked away on an epic journey filled with magic, monsters, and a protagonist who defies all expectations, even his own!

The story follows Jason Asano, a young man who finds himself transported to a world filled with magical creatures, dangerous quests, and an intricate system of levels and skill reminiscent of a role-playing game. A long way from Australia, he finds himself in a world far different from what he is accustomed to.

Jason must navigate this unforgiving realm. With the help of new friend leonid Gary and humans Rufus and Farrah, he uncovers the truth of his predicament, and how to survive.

“He Who Fights With Monsters” is an enthralling blend of fantasy, action, and comedy. Shirtaloon masterfully weaves a tale that feels vivid and alive, with detailed descriptions that transport the reader into the heart of the story. The inclusion of RPG mechanics adds an extra layer of depth, making the story feel like a tabletop roleplaying or virtual reality game that has come to life. Fans of the genre will appreciate the attention to detail and exploration of familiar tropes in ways that are fresh and exciting.

One of the novel’s greatest strengths lies in its characters. Jason Asano is a compelling protagonist who undergoes significant growth throughout the story. His journey from an inexperienced young man to a formidable force is both relatable and inspiring. The supporting characters, each with the own backstories and motivations, add complexity to the narrative, ensuring that no one is a mere sidekick. Exploration of the magic system, as well as the intricate politics and societal dynamics, adds an extra layer of depth to the story, leaving readers hungry for more knowledge about this captivating universe.

The pacing of the novel is generally well executed, with a good balance between action-packed sequences and quieter moments of character development. Shirtaloon skillfully maintains a balance between world-building, plot progression, and the emotional arcs of the characters, ensuring that readers are fully engaged throughout the narrative. He weaves together multiple plot threads that keep the reader guessing with unexpected twists and turns.

However, one minor drawback of the book is the occasional info-dumping that occurs when explaining the mechanics of the world and RPG system. While necessary to understand the roles of the game-like world, these sections can sometimes disrupt the flow of the narrative. Nonetheless, the overall world-building is solid, and once the reader becomes accustomed to the game mechanics, they add an intriguing layer to the story.

If you’re ready to embark on a thrilling adventure and experience a world where magic and monsters collide, with a modern twist and an immersive gaming experience, “He Who Fights With Monsters” is the perfect choice. Brace yourself for a rollercoaster ride of excitement, danger, and unexpected twists that will leave you craving for more. You will not be disappointed. Happy reading!

I just re-read the whole series after reading it on Royal Road for a long time.
Really great MC - a guy forced into another world - no idea, no powers, many hits to the head with a shovel. But he doesn't give up and he wont bow to anyone. About the best snarky guy out there with a wonderful team and an intersting world with rich and different magic and an ongoing fight, with hateable villains and loveable friendship.

the second volume of the series ( book 4-6) are not my favorite. On earth Jason definitely missses his supporting team. Now he is just omnipotent and not funny anymore. A know-it-all with an attitude. Was okay to read but also the whole astral-spaces mambo jambo was not interesting for me and the chapter where he drunkenly killed someone and found it funny because she would come back was not funny for me at all.
At least i peeked into the future on Royal Road and after book 6 the series came back to the old strength i really liked about it.… (altro)
