A relatively unknown book that is a relatively good world war 2 thriller.

BRITISH CHILDREN - BRITAIN'S GOLD; PREY OF NAZI SEAWOLVES!

The subtitle pretty much sums up what the book is about. When the tide of the war begins to turn against Britain the decision is made to move their gold, negotiable securities and valuable coinage to Canada for safe keeping, along with some children destined for America. Unfortunately for those onboard those weasely Nazi's have gotten wind of the shipment and dispatched a merchant raider to intercept them and commandeer the ship and its cargo. Seafaring antics ensue including some sabotage in an attempt to delay the ship so it can be intercepted, some snooping children, a seemingly unhinged comedian and a rather rapey first officer who seems to be both a terrible person and a capable seaman.

It's not a bad story, I started it after lunch and read through to the evening to finish it so it's quite an enthralling story. It just doesn't really stand out to me in the crowd of 1980s world war 2 fiction, which is a rather crowded category, it's certainly not a terrible story, it just doesn't really excel in any particular way that makes it memorable against all the other books of the genre beyond being generally entertaining. If you stumble across it, it's worth a look but I wouldn't go hunting for it and paying shipping to sent it across the world.½
