Rosalie Shaw

This book deserves a much wider audience. It deals with death, many many times over, as it comes to ordinary people. In this case the scene is Singapore, but it could be anywhere, although aspects of the stories would change. Dr Rosalie Shaw is at the same time a pioneer in palliative care, and a wonderfully reflective writer. Anyone who has read Kubler Ross 'On Death and Dying', or anything similar, should also read this. Dr Shaw observes death with her extraordinary skills and experiences, but it is not a technical book. She simply observes what she sees, what she hears, and - very unobtrusively - sometimes what she feels. She visits the dying not in the time of her choosing, but in theirs, mostly in their homes surrounded the things that are important to them. Dr Shaw has no pretensions of saintliness, she is a Doctor and this is what she does.… (altro)
