I’m so torn on this book. Parts of it I was so into - the storyline really hooked me in places and I wanted to know what would happen! However, I was not a fan of the way it was laid out. It seemed to jump around. All of a sudden you would get to the end of a chapter where it would say a time period - every time I questioned if it was before or after the last section. Sometimes the next section was different characters and I’d be like ???

This book is told from various points of view and moves back and forth in time. As the book unfolds, we learn about Graham's childhood, Estelle in present day, and various points of Graham in the war. The characters were multifaceted and likeable. The gradual revealing of the past and present kept me intrigued.

Early Reviewer Book. Twin brothers grow up in Scotland. The older one is abused by his father, the other is treated totally different. They marry and have children and then find themselves in France during WWI. Graham (the older brother) finds a young abused girl in a farmhouse. As he makes plans to send her to Scotland to his wife, the war makes other plans.

I thought the character development was very good, the plot could have been more even pacing. Overall a nice read.
