I loved this collection of Punky Brewster stories! Punky has been updated for the 21st century while still retaining the humor (and color scheme!) of the original show. The cast is fairly diverse and realistic, and Punky's dog Brandon is an outstanding supporting character. Kids (and grown-ups, too) will get a kick out of this reboot.

Note: I received a digital ARC through NetGalley.

A really fun story about a pack of were-dogs as they navigate their new abilities, high school, homework, crushes, family, responsibility, and heart ache. The illustrations were great and really sucked you into the story; the colors were vivid and the story line kept me entertained.

Can't wait for volume 2!

I took a lunch break while doing homework and started this with the intention to put it down once I'd finished my small lunch. Well, that didn't happen, but I did enjoy how fast-paced and fun this was. I like the idea of people from Atlantis coming up to land for just one year and the frantic nature of that deadline is reflected in this book.

Though this seems almost like a children's graphic novel, some of the creepy details mean I would more likely recommend this to young adults. There's a creepy lady who eats hearts. It was quite a shocking start.

The concept of this book was different from the books I've read, so I enjoyed it. The art was cool. I didn't like a few things, like the instalove, Aryn's reaction to Adrian being a Mer and the fragile friendship between Aryn and Julia, but I'd still say it's a good read. Go for it if you are looking for a fun, light read with some interesting things and are okay with some eye rollable stuff.

Note: I received a free copy of this book. The rating and review are my personal opinion and not influenced in any way.

I loved Punky Brewster when I watched it with my kids. When I saw this graphic novel I decided to give it a whirl. I was not disappointed. The story has been updated with technology to keep it relevant to kids today. Punky is living on the streets of Chicago with her dog, Brandon. She thinks she is doing just fine, but when she gets picked up by the police and taken to Fenster Hall, a children's home, she decides that she needs to find a family. With an internet search, she finds Henry, a distant cousin of her mother. She needs to use all of her Punky Power to convince everyone, including Henry, that she should live with him and he should be her new family. Punky is just as adorable and spunky as I remember from the television show. The vibrant, colourful cartoon illustrations along with the storyline make this a great choice for young girls as well as fans of the television show. I look forward to future editions from this series.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received this as a digital (Kindle) copy from NetGalley. I had requested it because I remembered watching Punky Brewster back in the day, but I couldn't remember much about it, and figured this might give my memory a boost while at the same time being a reboot of a classic.

Well, I was half right.

I still don't remember much from the old show (maybe if I get time I'll check YouTube), but this was a definite reboot, what with mentions of digital photography and computer files... I just wish it had been easier to read.

Punky Brewster the sitcom was bit after my time but the graphic novel pretty much gave me the overview: Energetic, precocious little girl with spunk charms everyone. The pacing and the dialog's cadence definitely have the ring of a sitcom.

I really wanted to read the Saved by the Bell graphic novel by this author, but the library didn't have it, so I settled for Punky Brewster instead.

I loved the tv show as a kid, but this book was boring, predictable, and annoying at times. Probably the same way the tv show would be if I tried to watch it now. I am intrigued to watch Punky Brewster episodes on YouTube, but I'm afraid it is something that is better kept as a pleasant childhood memory.

(ARC was provided to read and review.)

Not being familiar with the Punky Brewster TV series from the 80s, I had no idea what to expect and I have to admit, I liked the story a lot and rooted for Punky right from the start.

The eight-year-old girl certainly hasn't had the best start in life. Her mother abandoned her. Now she tries to survive living on the streets, until she's found sleeping in a bed in a shop during the night and the system starts to kick in. The police takes her to a foster home, where the first step is the desperate search for some relatives. Luckily some distant older relative, Henry, is discovered, but not too keen on taking Punky on.
The girl is now presented to various families, who are interested in adopting her, but as she has her mind set on living with Henry, she tries her best, to "persuade" the possible future parents, she isn't the child they want.
Punky and her cheerful sidekick, her cute dog Brandon, are utterly likeable. The girl never gives up hope and her ideas and resourcefulness are a joy to watch.
Eventually Henry and Punky grow into a team and develop a strong bond and now we watch the painful process, where he tries to adopt her, but is told, with 50 and as a widower living on his own, he isn't suitable. Punky, never one to give up easily, tries her best to win over the judge.
Will she succeed? Will Henry be able to adopt her?

A graphic novel which deals with homeless children and the machinery they are getting into with foster parents and adoption surely isn't a regular occurrence. What's more, despite keeping the story child-friendly and it's fiction after all, there are critical undertones, which are sadly spot on. Yes, foster parents exist who do it for the money and yes, older children are much less likely adopted than babies or toddlers and no, living on the streets isn't fun.
The illustrations tie in perfectly with the story. They are vivid and colourful and to me look a bit retro style, which I found spot on, considering, that Punky was an 80s TV show.

Punky Brewster was for me a really positve surprise and I'm definitely looking forward to Volume 2.
