Truly bizarre. As opaque as Lafferty can be at times. I could see where a book like this could tick a lot of people off, but I found it fairly fascinating. I can take guesses as to what really happened and I thought I would obtain the answers finally, but the book ended as cryptically as some medieval alchemist text. But I'm not angry -I just feel I need to read it again! Not a first book to read by this guy by any means. Go for Venusia if you want to get a first taste.

I now am intrigued to take in Sundogz the next in this series.… (altro)

Well, interesting enough edition of time travel that von Schlegell has conjured up here, but ultimately that's about it. Except for the method of time travel most of the rest of the energy in the text is spend propelling the reader into the mindset of the time traveler who has to be virtually out of his mind in order for the time travel to work - efficiently meaning that it all ends up pretty much completely relativistic which is a fine guise (the 3/5 stars of this review is meant as a praise for the literary style which IS compelling) under which to hide that nothing is really new under the sun with this book. Sorry, but this is not really my cup of tea.… (altro)

Venusia by Mark von Schlegell
Delirious piece of writing growing out of that verdant patch where the tributaries of science fiction, psychedelia, and abstract critical theory all drain into one another. Equal parts William Burroughs and Edgar Rice Burroughs, this book features sentient plants, unstable psychic landscapes, drug-induced reptile hallucinations, and pulp-grade sex: what's not to like?… (altro)
