Excellent examination of a major ecosystem that has generally been ignored by historians and scientists. Sawyer provides analysis of a rich variety of sources - mining different disciplines in his exploration of the region. The author draws upon his own avid attraction to the area which was nourished by his grandmother who was herself a remarkable woman shaped by the tidewater. He examines how the geology and biology shaped human habitation and how, in turn, human habitation shaped geology and biology in the region. Its well worth a look. Pick it up and enjoy.
