So I read this volume for Japanese June, and I really enjoyed it.

This is a really entertaining little first volume. Basically, Sherlock Holmes is a corgi (sort of?) and a teenaged boy, who turns out to be Watson, adopts him and takes him home.

Crimes ensue, the game is afoot and the dog can talk (only when he has a pipe in his mouth.)

As far as mangas go, this is pretty typical. There are quite a few of the usual tropes in here but I still found it easy to read and I did enjoy it. It's well-put together and the deductions in the cases are neat and detailed.

It was a really consistent graphic novel and I will definitely check out the rest of the series if I need something light and fluffy.

Not bad for an impulse buy. c:

More adventures of the ghost doctor. This volume has some more backstory, and introduces hints of a long-term threat to the doctor. The stories are a little saccharine, but I can take it, and I did like finding out more about the mythology (although I don't know how far it's based on actual mythology). What I don't have much patience for is the random "pervert" stuff that manga seems so determined to include: underwear jokes, ghosts that remove girls' clothing and so on are just tiresome, and groping people isn't a harmless peccadillo. Sigh. It didn't outrage me or anything, but I don't think I'm interested enough to read any more.… (altro)

An interesting supernatural school story based on Japanese folklore. It has two protagonists who can see ghosts.

The first part of the story is told twice, from each character's perspective, which was interesting. In some ways it's odd, though, because it doesn't just offer a different take; quite a bit is added the second time. The new material doesn't exactly contradict the first version, but it seems a bit strange that they would be omitted in the first place. Hard to explain without reading it.

Some of this was hard to follow, particularly as it uses artistic fonts in places that are harder to read than usual. Still, I enjoyed it. The male protagonist is odd, and while some of that oddity is explained by his background, some is still unexplained. I'm not sure yet if it's just the usual manga tendency to use a lot of sex jokes, or something else.

My very first manga! I loved that Sherlock Bones is a reincarnated dog that resembles a bunny rabbit, Watson is his teenage adopted owner, and Watson's teacher is Pamela Anderson from Baywatch. Not sure if this is typical of the genre. Reading backwards is a challenge!
