I strongly suspect this to be the type of art book where the painters included have paid for their inclusion. The best painters of Western Art are here, all with a uniform sized one column write-up, that ends with "where to buy" information, plus a photographic portrait, an axample of their signature, and a single example of their paintings. But there are literally hundreds of others given the same space, whose creativity and picture making ability seems spent with an extremely decorative signature and a vigorously twisted portrait face. It has often been a lucrative idea to sell a collection of advertisements to the advertisers, especially in give-away publications with an observable likelyhood of reaching the rich - but this book ,if it sold well to other than idiot web-buyers like me, must have been sold to a lot of childless aunts of the "artistic geniues in the family."
