The writing in this was just okay... sometimes Salchert went into too much detail about things that didn't really add to the story. I felt the book could have been about half as long. (Though it was still a quick and easy read.)

A decent chunk of the book is about Salchert's own struggle with chronic illness. While I struggle with chronic illness myself and can appreciate hearing others' stories, I also felt a bit misled, as I expected the focus to be on the hospice babies her family was caring for... that is why I picked up the book in the first place.

But it was an encouraging book, overall. Salchert didn't gloss over her anger and disappointment with certain situations, but also continually pointed readers back to Jesus.

"I have experienced the shattering [God] has brought about, not to destroy me, but to make me into the kind of woman who radiates the love of her Savior." p 219

"My God is faithful. He does what He pleases, and it will all be worked together for the ultimate good, whether it is in the moment or not." p 175

I am a little more than half way through this book and my heart aches for the author. Her description of her journey, physically, spiritually, and emotionally are poignant. Only a personal experience could describe this so deeply and accurately. It is much more than just a story of a family who cares for dying babies.
