Very popular with our preschooler. Wonderful artwork. Lilly is delightfully silly. Great for kids just learning to read.

"The world goes around...and the seasons change!" Lilly marches through each season, doing seasonally appropriate activities (finding seashells on the beach in summer, rolling snowballs in winter, taking a bite out of each apple in fall, a la Ramona Quimby). Lilly's teddy accompanies her. This small book is welcoming to emerging readers with its small trim size, landscape orientation, and spacious layout, with no more than four panels across a double page spread.

Silly Lilly is about a young girl who "pretends" to be something new everyday. From a cook, to an acrobat, and even a musician she is always coming up with new stuff. I thought the illustrations were great in this book. It is drawn almost as if its a comic book, and the pictures really bring the story together.

This is a book about Lilly as she discovers the four seasons. First, she is shown during the Spring and she goes to the park and plays with her bear. Second, she goes through Summer and spends a day exploring at the beach. Third, she is in the Fall and she is looking and tasting different apples. Fourth, she is shown in Winter making a snowball. Last, she is shown in Spring again as she plays on a swing. This book chronicles the journey of the four seasons and what activities the girl does in each one.

I want to like it. But, I cannot think of a kid I know would would really like this book. The best season is Fall because of the apple colors and idea that an apple that is "not so pretty" can be "very yummy." Just didn't work for me.

Silly Lilly was a great book for an early reader because of the graphic novel style of the book it was engaging with many different illustrations throughout the book all organized the same way on each page. The vocabulary was suitable for an early reader. It also listed all the seasons in order and showed Lilly doing things that are typical activities for those seasons.

SILLY LILLY AND THE FOUR SEASONS is a practice reader for children reading at the kindergarten level. It's a cute little book that follows Lilly through the seasons.

It begins with Spring and Lilly going to the park where she plays with her teddy bear. The text talks about how she likes to dance, jump, nap and play. And I should add that the 'story' is told in frames, like a comic book.

Summer has Lilly at the beach. She's standing in the water and noting the creatures around her, like fish and shell-critters. Fall is represented by apples. Lilly points out there different colors and eats one. And finally, Lilly is seen playing in the Winter snow. Teddy is back and the target of snowballs. It's actually pretty humorous as the bear's expression changes.

To complete the cycle, Lilly is back at Spring, swinging at the park. I think this helps children to grasp the cyclical rotation of the seasons.

SILLY LILLY AND THE FOUR SEASONS is a very nice practice reader for young children. The text is still large, but the format is different --like a comic-- which I think is a nice change of pace for kids. Besides practicing reading, children will get some reinforcement of what they know about the seasons. There's no heavy science, but Lilly is shown in season appropriate garb doing seasonally appropriate activities. So that is nice.

This an adventurous book with a little girl name Lilly. Lilly takes the reader through the four seasons. In the book Lilly does different activities that represent the season such as winter playing in the snow. She has a really good time exploring the seasons.

Personal Reaction
I would use this book to introduce what seasons are how there are certain things (activities) you do with the different seasons. A very good book for new beginning readers, I also like the pictures.

Extension Ideas
1. Read the book before each season and do a art project that may represent that seasons. (Fall, make leaf collages, apple trees).

2. Explore the season with an outdoors season hunt.

A graphic novel is a great way to keep the children entertained and this book is for small, young children. Also, it is great graphic novel to teach the children all the seasons and what the weather is like in each season. Great book for teaching and learning.

Each day of the week, Lilly tries out a new "occupation." One day she's a chef...and samples different veggies. Another day she's a musician, or a teacher, or a vampire. Simple text, clear bright pictures in comic format, large page numbers, and a kid-friendly surprise at the end make this a good choice for beginning readers.

Simple but very well done: clear illustrations and basic words show Tilly doing activities appropriate to each season. Bonus feature of illustrated page numbers is a helpful touch for early readers. Level 1 TOON book.

Lilly has fun playing outside and doing things that match the four seasons like eating apples in the fall. The book is set in panels with basic text for younger readers.

This picture book has many qualities of a graphic novel, such as action boxes and speech bubbles, but the format is simple enough to be followed by very young readers. Silly Lilly goes through all the seasons talking about her favorite things to do during each one. The illustrations are simple and feature the primary colors in a vintage style; they are eye-cathcing and quite beautiful. Great book for children learning about the four seasons, especially because there is an online "Read to Me" option so kids can try it on their own.
