Would give this one more than 5 stars if possible. Opened it for a quick glance and couldn't stop reading. I read late into the night and finished the next morning. I'm not a metalhead, although I do like some of the work of the more popular bands mentioned here - such as Led Zeppelin as a precursor of heavy metal, and later bands such as Judas Priest, Guns N' Roses, Dio, etc. But even when writing about sub-genres (and sub-sub-genres), this book sizzles with great writing and incredible wit. The authors manage to be serious at the same time they are also making cutting, offhand remarks about certain bands and their individual members (and their fans). The lists of top songs in each genre are invaluable for discovering more, and I'll be working my way through them. I hope someone has built playlists on YouTube. This is an opinionated book, and the better for being one. It's one of the most enjoyable music books I've ever read. (Lots of great pictures also!)… (altro)
