This is one of the cleverest, most imaginative books I have ever seen. When read in French, the rhymes make no sense at all; they are just random words put together. But when spoken aloud, they turn into well-known English poetry. For example, the title turns into "Mother Goose Rhymes". An amazing accomplishment and terrific fun.

A classic of homophonic translation; a work of genius.

I read this book a long time ago, and had forgotten all about it until someone posted on "Name That Book" asking if anyone could identify it. I knew I had read it, and was sure that the title was a version of "Mother Goose Rhymes"., so I checked all the books tagged as "Mother Goose Rhymes" and found the title that way.

I found it unreadable and unfunny, and I am not sure that I managed to work out what any of the rhymes were meant to be.½

"purports to be a book of French poetry but is actually a collection of nursery rhymes transcribed into pseudo-French."

Given to me as a birthday present by my brother-in-law, who is a great devote of this book and it's companion volume:'N'Heures Souris Rames'. I must admit, when I first started reading it I thought he must have lost his marbles, but suddenly the penny dropped and I got the joke. I have loved the books ever since. Pricks the pomposity of academics who study literature for a living!½
