Using her own words in her description for this book, the author, Danielle Rohr is described as being a Literary Naturalist. articulately blends the genre of fiction fraught with the reality of the beauty of nature, which forms the over-shadowing backdrop of the storyline, the Denali National Park in Alaska.

One of the problems I had in reading this book is the book’s protagonist, Liz. To begin with she doesn’t seem to belong working in a restaurant waiting tables, especially when you consider her attitude regarding her fellow workers. Then you’ve got her at times infuriatingly strange behavior. On one hand you’ve got her involvement with totally odd young males, while on the other you’ve got her fear and avoidance of dreadlock hippies. And to balance everything out, you’ve the physical environment in which the storyline for this book takes place, complete with haunted hotels and encounters with Alaskan wildlife like caribou and grizzlies.

I would have like to have seen a little more flesh regarding the human attributes of the storyline, which is why in the end I’ve given this book 4 STARS.

I actually received a KINDLE copy of this book from the author through the giveaway she had on Amazon and the following is my honest opinion.

In Over the Ocean, the book’s two protagonists, co-workers Jill and Mia, take readers along with them on their international vacation. And if anyone has taken a trip like theirs, you’ll find yourselves like did, confronted by a myriad of situations creating compromises they’re forced to make in their itinerary.

Being a child of the 1950’s, the storyline caused my mind to remember the times my parent’s friends came back from their vacations to share the NUMEROUS photos [slides] they had taken, and explaining what each slide had been a picture and if anything had happened to them there. Instead of slides, the author, Danielle Rohr, presents readers a personalized travelogue/diary of Jill’s and Mia’s adventure, as they discover things about themselves which they never realized before having been removed from the culture and customs they’ve gotten use to back in the US.

When all things are concerned, I’ve given this book 4 STARS for not having some “meat” to the storyline other than a history of the protagonist’s trip.

This was just an OK read for me. It follows two friends as they journey through Europe. They don't start out as close friends but they become closer as the journey continues and they meet more people. Some nice some not so much.

I never really felt connected to these characters and since they are obviously the main focus of the book, not being connected made it difficult to really get into the story. I also found the pace a bit slow in some parts. What I did enjoy was how descriptive the author was which made it easy to picture all the wonderful spots they were visiting.… (altro)

I was mostly lost throughout this book. I get that Liz was trying to discover herself. I just don't think I followed her journey that well. Liz’s attitude towards her coworkers, going off with complete strange boys and her behavior in general came across as weird and annoying . In the beginning I thought she was going to get murdered and come back as a ghost. That didn't happen though I feel like I missed the story or a big part of it.
