The author is clearly convicted and sincere, and perhaps wounded. As a reader with little experience and no interest in whatever gender bending may be involved, I am was unable to find much of value in this work -- in spite of the effort and suffering involved. This book further documents the reality of a complex world, and whatever readers may "believe", we should agree that bullying and jeering at any one who is a victim and trying not to be, is not justified.½

WAY TOO MUCH product name detail! Wow! It seemed like every item was described by a name brand. I did not finish reading this book.

The book starts out with alternate chapters about a young man named Shai who overcomes many difficulties to be successful professionally, and a seemingly perfect older female lawyer named Noa. Eventually we learn (SPOILER! But this is mentioned in other reviews) that they are the same person. I had no idea this was coming. The book goes on to give more background into this change, but I was left feeling the story was incomplete and that I didn’t truly know or understand Noa. I was especially wondering about the impact on her family, previously described as close and loving. There were also problems with language, possibly due to translation.½

A very good book, all who can, should read it. A short review, I know, but that's it - a good book, a story of secrets, fears, loves, friendships, moving forward into the unknown in a world of fear but also of love.

I enjoyed the premise of this book, however I found it was in need of further editing and it wasn't overly memorable.½

I wanted to like this book so badly because all of the components of a really interesting story are there, they just need to fit together better with a lot more supporting details/plot lines/etc.

I wanted to like this book (the subject matter was interesting to me), but there were grammatical errors throughout which was a bit off-putting and made it hard for me to get through. 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3

'The Day After' by Shani Roffeh

My Assessment:

'The Day After' was quite a different read that kept my attention through the story. The reader was taken through a 'journey, with many twists and turns, self-identity, realization, pain, rejection, and love.' The reader gets the inside of the thinking of a genuine transgender person as the story relates to this author. The story was one of the most enlightening reads on this subject.

Review: The Days After by Shani Roffeh.

This is an Early Reviewers book. This story is about a known Attorney and his family and how the couple handled their secrets throughout their lives and how friends, family and society reacted to post-transition. The reader followed them mostly through the thoughts of the couple written words.

The book needed to be edited in many places but all and all I got the drift and theme of what they were going through. I feel it could have been written in better clarity and more moments of true data explain about the issues.½

An outstanding novel that is about strength, identity, self-realization , love and the ability to change.
Shai a handsome man, happily married with children. He has become a successful attorney and an expert on cyber law . Despite only having 10 years of education as a child due to learning disabilities, as an adult Shai obtained several degrees .
Noa, is also a beautiful successful attorney, author , an former CEO of a cyber tech. She is well respected in her country and is also loved by her family.
Together, they share a journey.
An eye opening story of pain, love, courage, and the strength to change.
I received this book in exchange for a review. I have to give it 5 stars as it was one of the most enlightening books I have read in awhile.

(Spoilers below)
I tried to finish reading this book, but I just could not. I gave it about a 120 pages before I had to call it quits for my own sanity. The story contained in the book has so much potential and I really love the idea of meeting a trans character before and after transition without initially realizing it.
What this book is lacking is competent translation (some passages are gibberish or read like they were fed through Google Translate) and some serious copy editing. It also needs some work on "showing not telling". We learn barely anything through the actions or words of the characters. Instead the readers are just told how caring the characters are, how competent at their jobs, how devoted to their families, etc. with zero actual character development happening on the page. We don't journey through their lives and struggles with the characters, we're just told in one sentence that they did something or other and how it makes them such a great person. The other thing that needs some work is humanizing these characters. Everyone in the book seems to be the peak of human perfection - gorgeous and absolutely flawless in all ways. This doesn't really make for believable, let alone interesting characters. Although we're told that Shai has overcome so much, that's it - we're just told and not actually shown. I want to be able to live through the struggles and the hardships with the characters and not just get a book report on how amazing they are for doing it.
There are good bones here, but this book needs a lot of work to really shine.

This book held my interest, in the sense of two lives being thrown together through society and how you see the transformation through the book. However, I don’t think it was finished being molded and edited. It had a lot of grammar errors and it is one of those things that will take away from a good book for me. I would be interested in reading it again after the author works on it some more.

This could have been a good book if not for the spelling and grammatical errors—they are a pet peeve of mine!

There is potential for an interesting story of a personal transformation..... mentally and physically. However it does not always flow well and can be hard to I stay involved in the he story at times. There are a few spelling and punctuation errors... especially towards the beginning of the book. Also some parts of the story seem more developed than others and I felt that important parts were lacking and made it difficult to connect. For instance, there are multiple passages describing the great love between Shai and his wife, but after his transformation she is only mentioned almost as an after thought. I would have liked to know a little more about how things developed with them since she was such a supporting role in his life. The ending of the book, particularly the sex scene, seemed forced and did not seem to fit in with the rest of the story. With the information we were given along the way, this part of the story even seemed to be a little contradictory. I think there is potential, but needs a little more even development throughout the whole book

Interesting story line of two people who's lives merge, literally and figuratively. Very good potential but either it hadn't been edited well or something was lost in the translation. I think the potential with work is for a best seller, but only in a polished, finished, manner. It had gaps and I am not sure of its medical accuracy in parts. But it held my attention.

This is a story of great personal change. Shai is a very successful lawyer and speaker with a hole in his life. Facing his fears leads him to make a decision to metamorphose into his true self — Noa. This is the story of her facing the challenges brought by this change, growing into her true self, and facing the push back from society. Strong story but awkward language usage.

Don't read this.

This is the story of a transgender woman, both before and after her transition. It looks at how friends, family and society reacted to her post-transition. What's wrong with it?

First, it says it's a true story. But it's fiction.
Second, the dialogue is stilted. Characters proclaim things to each other rather than talk.
Third, the way Shai/Noa's gender dysphoria manifests itself doesn't match any research I've done. Did the author do any?
Fourth, Shai/Noa has never been attracted to men and has never cheated on their spouse. But we end with a major sex scene that comes out of nowhere.
Fifth, the translation isn't good. Lots of errors in syntax and punctuation.
Sixth, the editing is bad. For example: at least two character names vary in spelling. One is a very minor character; the other is our main protagonist; and we are told the children refer to Noa one way, but in dialogue they refer to her a different way.

And if Shai or Noa had stood before a full-length mirror "naked as the day they were born" one more time, I might have thrown something.½
