Most of the book contains journal entries the writer made while she and her husband did a lame road trip in the pretence of academic study. I would want this book off the shelf if I were the husband or the university funding the study. I think there is some merit in suggesting that roads follow old Native American trails but Menendez hacked away more trails than Indians because canoes were the primary source of transportation before the Spanish brought over horses. Doing a research study on De Soto using the method described in the book makes little sense. I hope the serious academic work was just left out of the journal or his work should be dismissed..
