Katlynn had enjoyed her "stardom" but now she was thirty-two, and felt threatened all she sacrificed could soon be "swept away" if she didn't do something to hike her ratings up. There was only one thing she could think of, something she had tried hard for all these years to forget... "back home" and painful memories.
If this is what it takes to save her career and the livelihoods of her staff, then she had no alternative.
Cole was out all the chilly night with a cow who was calving. Early morning , his father joined him. As they observed the struggle of the mother struggling to claim her calf. Cole's Dad dropped a "bombshell" on him. When they arrived home, Cole discovered that was not the only "bombshell" his dad had to drop!
Could Katlynn and could Cole escape without "pouring salt into old wounds"?
Several twists, hidden secrets, adventure, excitement, and emotional conflicts occur within these pages. Unhurried secrets that could set those in present bondage, free!
Will they truly be able to solve this mystery from the past?
The characters are so realistic and the scenes depicted so well, the reader will feel he/she is right there with them!
The Cover and Title are a very good "Fit".
*This book was gifted me with no suggestion of a positive review. This is my honest review.

Acquired Book By: I received a complimentary copy of “A Rancher to Remember” direct from the author Karen Rock in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive compensation for my opinions or thoughts shared herein.

Daryl Loveland is shouldering an incredible burden - not just the fate of his marriage and how his relationship with Leanne was disappearing in front of his eyes but he had leftover anguish about how he was raised. Scars like that do not heal easily nor do they fully erase from a person's spirit - Daryl was a kind father with a good heart - as he recognised when he should be more patient and calm when it came to his children even if his insides were boiling past repair. You can see it in how he was trying to work through a disastrous dinner where everything went to heck and a haystack; yet, he stilled his anger and kept things calm for the kids. His daughter and son were questioning why their Mum hadn't returnt home - which is when of course, your own heart went to pull for this troubled family. You knew he had a lot weighing on him just by what was being shared this early into the story but I don't think anything prepared him or I for whom was behind the doorbell.

As jarring as the opening chapter had become, I had a feeling there was an equally rough road ahead of Cassidy and thankfully I was not mistaken. I didn't quite predict how rough her life would become as I was thinking she was going to have a hard exit out of Southeast Asia when in reality her troubles came to a head a bit closer to 'home', so to speak! This was also seriously one of the better trauma induced amnesia patients I've come across recently in fiction - as Cassidy of course is a victim of her injuries but it is how Rock highlighted that fresh angst over lost memory which truly resonated with me.

I loved the scene with Sierra and the injured eagle - mostly as I have held a deep appreciation for wildlife rescue my whole life whilst I've also have taken injured animals to rescue organisations for rehab before they were re-released. It is a beautiful testimony to how we can all play a part in the cycle of life and how dependent the natural world can sometimes be on our everyday kindness. It was lovely finding this sentiment reflected through Sierra but also, of how well she knew her brother Daryl as he wasn't just stopping over for a crash course in raptor rescue procedures!

Sometimes brothers need the straight-talking advice of their sisters - specifically this is exactly what Daryl needed out of Sierra! She doesn't mince words and happily owns her thoughts when it comes to doling out advice to one of her brothers who feels down on himself but without the realisation that he's putting too much blame where it doesn't belong. I knew I liked Sierra but in this story, she truly warms your heart for how caring she is to find the higher road to help Daryl through his self-afflicting recriminations which do not belong against his spirit. I mean, you can understand how he came to this realisation - that is aptly explained - but I took Sierra's side when it came time to owning the reality and the truth; Daryl is far too hard on himself for his own good!

Rock has solidified this series with its deep roots spilt between the Cade and Loveland families - towards that end, she also has intensified our appreciation for these families due to their life affirming bonds and sibling advocacy. They have become entrenched in your heart as you read their stories and this one proves to have one punch after another! I was torn between my concern for Joy and Cassidy; they were each facing their own demons in this installment to where you just wanted to reach out and hug them both! Daryl had a winning personality even though he didn't have a lot of self-confidence in himself (which reminded me of a lot of the American Idol contestants lately who have zero confidence in their abilities right now) nor of his role within the Loveland family.

Despite all of that and the pressure of the unknowns relating to Leanne (Cassidy's sister, Daryl's wife) - Rock brings us fully round to the heart of what makes this series such a worthwhile read. She draws you close to the drama of how family has to bend and yield round each person's adversities and trials; everyone has something to face in life and everyone has something to overcome - that's where family steps in and helps you get through those darker parts of life which seek to destroy your soul. Family has your back and family helps you rebuild your life when you think you can't start anew and find a new purpose to anchour your future towards. This is why I love this series - its about the realness of how the realities of living can seek to push you down but its how you rise out of the ashes that counts the most.

So, I’ll be honest here. I had my doubts about how much I would like this new Karen Rock book but as a fan of the Loveland and Cade clans, I wasn’t about to miss it. Y’all, Rock blew me away with this book. Why, you ask? Well, I’ve got a few things to say about it.

First, my biggest concern after reading the description was a (very recently) widowed man falling for his first love, who also happened to be his deceased wife’s sister? Yeah, that sounded like too much too soon. But nope, Rock gave a believable backstory to that, and the history Cassidy and Darryl share just enhances their attraction and admiration for each other.

Darryl is so determined to do the right thing, to live up to the Loveland name, that he often sacrifices his true desires for others around him. But he is most definitely one of the good guys. I mean, how can you not love a cowboy whose kids are his everything?

And Cassidy? Well, despite her globe trotting photojournalism career, this woman has a tender heart and cares just as much for those kids.

Of course, in true Karen Rock fashion, there’s also plenty of stoic Loveland siblings, hot-headed Cade siblings, and some family drama that remains to be solved in future books.

A Rancher to Remember surprised me in the best kind of way with Rock’s ability to deliver solid stories with tough issues, family ties that are almost unbreakable, and lots of heated kisses for the romantic in her readers.

As the end of the year draws closer and weather draws ever colder it's nice to forget the outside world for a little bit. Winter Wedding Bells allows that. I received an ARC of this wonderful anthology in exchange for an honest review. Romantic fiction is my genre of choice and this read falls into that category. The Kiss by Karen Rock, The Wish by Kristin Rolofson and The Promise by Jennifer Snow bring Christmas cheer, sweet romance, and a breathtaking sense of wonder to the holiday season.
Whether giving love a second chance with the one you can't forget, falling (literally) into the arms of love when you least expect or making a major decision that could leave behind regret. Full of stories that are a pleasure to read.

Fear of hard work didn't stop Nolee from achieving her dreams but made her more determined to succeed in a testosterone charged environment. The sea owns her heart, body and soul. When a turn of events brings a face to face confrontation with her past, will this fearless fighter end up meeting her match? His Last Defense brings out the heavy artillery. In Nolee, Ms. Rock builds a courageous woman with the strength to take on the world and conquer sexism while standing up to danger. Dylan brings bad boy swagger and fire all his own with his tempting smile and sensuous looks. Taking a walk on the wild side has never been so much fun.

Amberley is the kind of heroine you hope to find, but never knew you were searching for. Jared is a walking dream that steps from a imaginative figure into real life. Falling for a Cowboy blends heartbreaking realism with courageously inspiring characters. Karen Rock has created a piece of hope in what seems like a hopeless situation. At her lowest point, Amberley faced her fears. She may have lost her faith but Jared refused to allow her to lose that spark that made her into the woman she was meant to be. Through the tears, despite the fears and because of faith, what began as a tragedy became a triumph. Falling for a Cowboy is phenomenally fascinating storytelling.

Attraction brought them together, anguish and guilt may tear them apart. Cassie has always looked up to her brother. He was the fearless one who's daring ways made for sleepless nights but filled her with pride. Losing her hero has left her lost but determined to live life to the fullest in his honor. Her first risky endeavor lands her in the arms of Mark, a stranger who unbeknownst to her blames himself for her brother's death.

Within the pages of His to Protect, Ms. Rock not only gives a realistic view of the trials and tribulations of the Coast Guard. She also gives an up close and personal view of the effects of survivors guilt and the close relationships between the agencies of search and rescue. One wrong move can be the difference between life and death. Informative, emotional and tempting is the best way to describe this action packed romance.

Acquired Book By: I received a complimentary copy of “Winning the Cowboy's Heart” direct from the author Karen Rock in exchange for an honest review. I did not receive compensation for my opinions or thoughts shared herein.

We're immediately drawn into Heath's life as a musician - the pull of the music itself and the connection he can ascertain with those in the audience who truly see him as he's playing is what draws him forward in a performance - not surprising then, that the one who was drawing his eye the most was Jewel Cade! She's the spunky sister of the Cade brothers this series is centred round - the resilient family and the one of whom until recently, were the living nemesis of the Loveland family. Heath being a Loveland lad and Jewel being the sole sister of the Cade's - you can imagine how sometimes the two families sometimes had more than a few reasons to bicker, argue and disagree! When it came to Jewel though - her brothers were not just her protectors, they quite literally guarded her from anyone they felt wasn't good enough for their sister. As all brothers do but for Jewel that would lead into a few complications!

The interesting bit to Jewel though is she had a harder edge to her than most girls; she didn't suffer fools and she didn't give any of the Loveland boys an inch, Heath included. For her, it was part of the pride of being a Cade and also, trying to constantly prove herself amongst the boys. I always felt whilst reading the series there was more to Jewel than what she presented; a hidden part to not only her personality but what really made her feel the way she does and explain why she acts the way she prefers as its not the best way to charm a cowboy like Heath!

Jewel was an interesting woman - she loved ranching and she loved her cattle. She reminded me a lot of Temple Grandin in how she wanted to put the lives of the cattle ahead of the goals of the ranch when it came to profit, efficiency and loss. She had a keen mind about what was best for the cattle and how to give the cattle a less stressful existence even if her brother James didn't give her half the credit she deserved on that score. Jewel was attempting to change the processes of how they ranched but also, to improve the lives of the cattle she loved to take care of as a rancher. Her heart was wedded to the land and to the animals she was in charge of protecting - the fact she never saw herself with a life off the ranch itself was a bit stressing but when you get to know more about Jewel it does make sense. She hasn't had the easiest life in regards to standing out from the boys and sometimes, what drives you to prove your self-worth is what is worth fighting for the most.

I was thankful Rock placed Sierra and Jewel together on the flower committee - it gave them each a chance to break down the barriers between their families. Each of them grew up similarly - loads of brothers, the only girl amongst the guys and a hard-won attitude for standing out. Sierra also had the chance to show Jewel the softer side of her personality which I appreciated as despite the fact Jewel has a sensitive side she hides from others, its sometimes hard to know where she stands on a lot of things as she likes to keep things private. Sierra gave her a friendship to lean on where she could be herself but without the pressures of trying to prove anything. I felt this was a friendship they both needed - not just because of the feud but because of how they each grew up in a similar way.

The beauty of this installment is not just keeping the continuity in tact for the Loveland/Cade adverse relationship stemming from water rights but for giving us a glimpse into how hard it is to recognise needing the time to learn 'who you are' before you can consider becoming a 'partner' with someone else. Heath needed the extra time to sort out who he is and what he wants the most in life to do with his hours whereas Jewel knew how her skill set could help both families but how to prove that against the stubbornness of tradition?

Rock hasn't disappointed me - she's crafted together a wicked lovely fifth installment of a series that is enduring as it is nurturing of the human spirit. Each page turn led me closer to understand Jewel and Health, whilst the rest of their expanding families were close-by in the background, standing proud and true alongside them. It is a remarkable series from that particular stand-point where you can get to know everyone in the family, tuck into a story highlighting one of their paths towards living their authentic self and still feel as if you've gone back home for a happy respite of familial reverie! This is a family which feels like yours and one that you can't help but continue to rally behind as they re-define how to find strength in adversity and hope in moments where life feels oppressively stacked against you.

What I love about how Ms Rock has been crafting this series together is how she moves from one character of importance to another - each character being highlighted in each installment draws us closer to understanding the overall sequence of the series. For instance, it was fitting to focus on Jewel in book five as I felt it was a natural choice of who should be highlighted next - each time we return to the series, we're not just drawing closer to one character, we're understanding the long history between the Cade's and the Loveland's overall.

I, for one, am glad there are so many members of the Cade and Loveland families because I am loving this series by Karen Rock.

In Winning the Cowboy’s Heart, readers get to watch the romance develop between Jewell Cade (the youngest and only female Cade sibling) and Heath Loveland (a cowboy with a soul filled with music). We’ve gotten hints of the attraction through several of the books, and Jewell’s brothers love to tease her about Heath.

So, when Jewell is asked to help out at the Loveland Ranch, she feels obligated. There’s a dedication and passion to her family’s arch nemeses that she’s never noticed before. Spending time with them—and with Heath—makes her question the feud their families have had for more than a century.

Both Jewell and Cade operate with misconceptions. Often to his detriment, Heath is a people pleaser. Instead of grabbing hold of what he wants, he aspires to make others happy. Jewell is out to prove herself to her brothers, her deceased father, and the world. To hide her softer side, she puts on a rough and tough cowgirl persona, but she has dreams.

With the pull of attraction getting stronger between Heath and Jewell, a looming lawsuit between the families, and discovering what’s most important in their lives, Karen Rock gives readers another thoroughly enjoyable and fulfilling story. This one is the best in the series yet!

Cassie Rowe is taking the biggest risk of her life, and is on her was to the hurricane-ravaged Virgin Islands, as a Red Cross volunteer RN. Why would quiet, Midwest Cassie do this? She is paying tribute to her Coast Guard brother, whom died doing what he loved. But knowing he loved it, didn’t stop her or her over protective parents from blaming his team member for his death. So the last thing she expects when she arrives at the base in Clearwater, is to run into the man she had just spent the night with, or to find out that he is one of the men that she blames for her brother's death…Lt. Commander Mark Sampson.

Now, normally I would go into more details on the relationship between Cassie and Mark, but that would truly blow the whole story! From the moment I looked at this book I loved it! And I know everyone says you shouldn't judge the book by its cover, but seriously! Have you seen the cover! It's delicious!! Then the moment you start reading BAM!! You fall head on in love with this whole coast guard team! Seriously you cannot help yourself! They are cocky, tough and delicious and I cannot wait to read the whole series.

The writing in this book is detailed, compelling and addictive. The plot is magnificent and you are literally gripped from the first rescue flight. I loved the chemistry between Mark and Cassie, and the only thing that I wish was different, was that the book continues on until Mark meets Cassie's parents…but maybe that will come up in a future book. But then I'm super greedy when it comes to all of the books I fall in love with, and want to know every detail about them…FOREVER! lol

I give His to Protect 5 stars!

I have been thoroughly enjoying Karen Rock’s Rocky Mountain Cowboys series. In the newest installment, A Cowboy’s Pride, the focus shifts from the Cades to their rival family—the Lovelands. Cole has been hanging around, making those Cade men jealous, a few times. Now it’s his turn in the hot seat (or maybe I should say his turn in the saddle).

As Cole and Katie-Lynn (his former fiancée) dig into the Cade-Loveland feud and subsequent loss of Cora’s tear, they uncover much more than they anticipated. While working together, they quickly discover their attraction for each other hasn’t faded but has anything changed? There were valid reasons they broke it off to begin with.

Rock builds plenty of tension, fans the flames of the rivalry we’ve come to love between the Cades and Lovelands, oozes plenty of cowboy bravado, and throws in some make-you-melt kissing scenes! All while weaving a mystery of what firmly drew the line between the Cade and Loveland families. And did I mention this is leading up to the marriage that will unite these two families?
Another fabulous, couldn’t put it down read from Rock

Good second chance story. I liked getting Dylan's story, as he intrigued me in His to Protect. At the end of that book, he's just been transferred to Kodiak, Alaska, his hometown, and he isn't at all happy about it. In this book, we learn that he left Kodiak almost a decade earlier, swearing he would never return. His memories of his father's emotional abuse and his mother's disinterest still affect him today. On top of that, the girl he loved broke his heart, so he walked away from it all.

Nolee's father left before she was born. She grew up with her and her single mom moving from relative to relative, house to house. She swore that she would never need or depend on someone else ever again. After years of hard work, she is now the captain of her first boat, with a crew that respects her. Fishing for crab in the icy Alaskan waters isn't easy work, but she loves it.

The book opens with Nolee's boat in trouble from a fast-moving weather system. When they start taking on water, she has no choice but to call in the Coast Guard. The last person she expects to see come out of that helicopter is Dylan. At the same time, he is shocked to find Nolee trying to keep her boat afloat. This was a scene that had me on the edge of my seat as it all went down. I could almost feel the icy water as it rose further in the ship and the waves as they knocked it around. I could feel Nolee's desperation as she tried to save the boat and Dylan's frustration as he tried to get her to leave.

I liked both Nolee and Dylan, though each of them frustrated me too. Nolee is tough, caring, and has a good sense of humor. It takes a strong will to compete in such a male-dominated field, and she has what it takes. She also has a softer side, that can be seen in the way she tries to take care of her mother, and also in several scenes with various crew members. She can also be very stubborn, which especially shows in her refusal to ask for help when she needs it. Dylan can be just as stubborn, hence his refusal to return to Kodiak until ordered to do so. He loves his career with the Coast Guard, but he still has some trouble trusting people outside of his work environment.

I really enjoyed the rekindling of the relationship between Dylan and Nolee. Even though each of them believed that they had put their past behind them, from the moment they saw each other again the sparks flew. They quickly decide that the best way to deal with it is to indulge in a no-strings fling. All they have to do is keep their emotions out of it - something neither is willing to admit is easier said than done. To top it off, Dylan finds himself very protective of Nolee and fearing that she could take too many risks, signs on to help her while he's on leave.

The scenes on the boat were terrific. It doesn't take long for Dylan to see just how capable a captain Nolee is. It was fun to see him get back into the swing of crab fishing, reliving some of the better memories of when he and Nolee were growing up. It isn't all smooth sailing with them, though. Nolee's stubborn independence causes her to resist asking for help, and it takes some effort to get her to ask for it. Nolee can see that while Dylan has changed some, he is still as stubborn as ever when it comes to his family. Each of them can see what the other's issues are, but are willfully blind to their own. And whenever one of them tries to bring up a painful subject, the other is quick to use sex as a distraction. Over their time on the boat, they still manage to grow closer, with their feelings growing stronger. But once again, communication isn't their strong point. Misunderstandings about their future plans cause harsh words and accusations that split them apart. The question becomes one of whether they can unload that emotional baggage to make room for each other. I liked seeing each of them make peace with their pasts, which then opened up greater possibilities for their future. I liked their big moment at the end and seeing what was possible when they listened to each other. I will admit that I would have liked an epilogue showing where they are a few years down the road.

I was fascinated by the look at the crab fishing industry. I had never really thought about how it was done. The intensity was incredible and had me on the edge of my seat in several places. I also liked the very human elements shown by the personalities of the various crew members. I especially liked the newbie, Tyler, and seeing the changes he went through during those three weeks. I loved the conversation between him and Nolee. She treated his questions, fears, and dreams with respect and that made a huge impact on him.

Good story of love, loss, and healing. Cassie is a nurse who has spent most of her life in her hometown, playing it safe with her life. Her adored big brother was the adventurous one who became a Coast Guard rescue swimmer. A year earlier, Jeff lost his life during a mission, and Cassie blames the pilot. Determined to honor her brother's memory by challenging herself, Cassie joined a Red Cross hurricane relief mission. Faced with intense nerves the night before, she hooked up with a sexy stranger who provided quite the distraction.

The night before his first mission in a year, Mark also needs a distraction. He's haunted by the last one, where he had to decide between leaving a man behind and saving the rest of the crew and rescued victims. Now he isn't sure if he has what it takes to continue his work. The sexy blonde who rocks his night gives him welcome relief from his dark thoughts.

The next day both are dismayed to find out each other's identity. Cassie has harbored a lot of anger toward Mark because of Jeff's death and finding out he's the man she had such a deep connection to has confused her. Mark is even more horrified. Cassie is the little sister of his friend, the one he feels responsible for losing. He has no business being with her. But no matter how hard they try, it's impossible for them to stay away from each other.

I really enjoyed the development of their relationship. The chemistry between Mark and Cassie is off the charts, but it's the emotional connection that really drew me in. As part of the humanitarian mission, Cassie got to see first-hand what drew her brother to his service. Working closely with Mark, she also realized that, rather than the cold-hearted pilot she had believed him to be, he is as deeply attached to his mission as Jeff had been. The more she sees of his anguish over Jeff's death, the easier it is for her to let go of her own.

I loved seeing Cassie come into her own during this book. Thanks to stepping outside her comfort zone, she realized that she hadn't been happy living the quiet life back in Idaho. She had been suffocating under her parents' overprotectiveness and her own need to please. I loved seeing her stretch her wings and discover a calling that matched her brother's. I ached for Mark through most of the book, as well as experiencing the occasional wish to shake him. Jeff's loss has damaged his self-confidence which causes him to question some of his decision. Then, as his feelings for Cassie grow, those fears make him over-protective of her.

When team injuries give Cassie the opportunity to fly rescue missions with Mark, she is quick to seize the opportunity. What for Cassie is an eye-opening and life-changing experience becomes a nightmare come true for Mark. When Cassie makes a decision about her future, she expects support from Mark, not the reaction she gets. Though I ached for her heartbreak, I cheered her resolution in following through. Mark's misery was obvious, but his stubbornness was stronger. I liked the straight talk he got from Dylan, who flat-out told him he was an idiot, and the conversation with his former mentor who showed him that love wasn't meant to be thrown away or wasted. I loved his big moment at the end, as his heart was finally ready to take a chance on the future.

I also liked the background of the book. The setting of the rescue work involved in hurricane relief was interesting and exciting. The insight into the long hours and sometimes heartbreaking situations gave an added richness to the story. The rescue flight that Cassie participated in had me on the edge of my seat. The intensity and danger leapt off the page and gave a good idea of what the SAR people go through every day. I also liked getting the viewpoint of some of those on the receiving end of the rescue, and the difference they made to Mark's view of himself. I also liked seeing the closeness of Mark's crew and can't wait to read Dylan's story.

The Cades are back and most of them are moving on with their lives. But Justin is stuck. With the death of his twin brother, he has lost his purpose in life. When his daredevil streak almost has him following Jesse, he’s given a choice: jail or a rehab/counseling stint.

In Bad Boy Rancher, Karen Rock tackles topics that are difficult: addiction, depression, and PTSD to name a few. Each of the members of Second Chance is unique in their circumstances yet the same in that they are on their way to healing. Rock’s ability to humanize these disorders is top-notch.

Justin’s journey is not an easy one, nor is Brielle’s. Healing takes courage and hard work. If they’re both willing to stretch themselves, to open up about the things that haunt them, they may discover more than they dreamed possible in their lives.

Throw in a couple members or the Cade’s arch-rival family and moments of levity balance the harder moments well. Seriously, can the Lovelands please have their own series? I really want to hang out more with these men.
Now we just need to learn more about Jewel Cade and her relationship with Heath Loveland. Seriously, can the Lovelands please have their own series? I really want to hang out more with this family that has acted as voices of reason to the Cades despite their on-going feud.

I loved Christmas at Care Ranch bynKaren Rock. It is an emotional book of hope, redemption, forgiveness and second chances wrapped with love. Karen Rock has weaved a fantastic story in which you can find yourself being swept up in. It is a wonderful story with imperfect realistic characters that you find yourself laughing, crying and rooting for throughout the book. Not often do I find a book that I can get so wrapped up in the characters but this one you can.
If you like an uplifting fun emotional romance that you just can't put down then this book is for you.
I was given this book for my honest opinion and review

You couldn't ask for a better Thanksgiving themed collection of stories. And the quality of work will blow you away! I was led through story after story and each time felt as though I was getting a full length novel in the strong characters and story lines. It is one that I will go back to each November to get me in the Thanksgiving spirit.

Vivie Harris moves from the city to the Adirondacks hoping to find a safe place after she was the victim of a brutal assault. One night, Vivie discovers a bear cub has gotten into her kitchen through the open window, seeking out her freshly baked pies. She finds out from handsome conservation officer Liam Walsh, that the cub’s mother was killed by poachers, and therefore, the cub may need to be put down. Vivie then takes it upon herself to rehabilitate the bear, whom she names Button, so it will have the survival skills it needs to survive out in the wild. But when the time comes to release Button, will Vivie be able to let the bear that she’s become so attached to, go.

This was such a wonderful story! I totally fell in love with Button and I couldn’t blame Vivie one bit for her attachment to Button and her unwillingness to let the bear go. I admired Vivie’s strength, and how fiercely she loved and protected Button. Liam was a sympathetic hero, torn apart by trying to do what was right for Button, while having to risk breaking Vivie’s heart in the process. Vivie and Liam were both damaged souls, finding it hard to move on from their pasts. I liked how their romance took its time to develop and grow.

I loved the book’s setting with the beautiful and vivid scenery of the Adirondacks, the forests, and the mountains. This was a touching and moving story of learning to celebrate life and of trying to live it to the fullest. It’s also a story of learning when to let go. This story really packed an emotional punch, and the epilogue was absolutely perfect.

One of the programs I loved to watch on my television in my younger days, single and still unattached was “The Love Boat.” Each weekly episode contained three interconnected vignettes, in which each of couple in the vignettes took the cruise in the hopes of finding romance for the first time, rekindled the one they once had so they could get a second chance in having a HEA, or even looking at whether or not they’ve made the right decision in marrying the guy who had proposed to her.

“Winter Wedding Bells” gives its readers three authors: Kristine Rolofson, Karen Rock and Jennifer Snow who have gotten together to write three individual novelettes [vignettes], with each one taking place at the Mirror Lake Ski Lodge in Lake Placid, NY.

In “The Kiss” by Karen Rock, what would you do if right before you were to say the “I Dos” you encounter your first love and with a little prodding by your mother, a mother who probably knows you better than yourself; would you proceed with your wedding plans or stop and reconsider your options? This is the predicament Julie has found herself in with regards to her relationship with her first true love, Austin. Don’t forget a second chance of a HEA can only happen once.

In “The Wish” by Kristine Rolofson, what you do if you’re an events planner and you’ve in a professional working relationship with a sexy, Italian chef, who’s the heartthrob of countless of beautiful women; but have been ignoring any and all of his advances simply because you don’t believe you’re good enough for the likes of him? What will it take for you to see the light of that his hunk can actually be yours? What will it take for your mind to finally listen to your heart? This is score of the relationship that Grace and Nico are facing to have a HEA happen.

In “The Promise” by Jennifer Snow, what would you do if you’re the maid of honor at your friend’s now cancelled wedding and you see her cousin, a guy you once had a decent relationship until it had turned sour. Back then you were your old self and he had been a conceited football player. Today you’re a professional woman with a successful career as lawyer who some consider to be uptight. You know you’ve changed, but as far as you’re concerned this guy’s the same; and you’d love to avoid having anything do you with him. What does this guy have to do to change your mind so you’ll be willing to become his, a desire he’s desperately wants to become true? This is the second chance decision Alexis has to make regarding Liam, so there could be a HEA for both of them.

As you can see having the HEA all three of these women are looking for is not as easy it might appear. There are a lot of decisions which must be made, some easy, some hard.

While you always knew at the end of each week’s episode of “The Love Boat” that all of the couples in the various vignettes would find the happiness they’ve sought, the endings here is not as clear cut. How many of these three stories end in a HEA, with two being a much sought after second chance? Will it be three, will it be two or will it be none?

As a Book Reviewer I know the answer since I’ve read the, but for everyone else, the answers can be found when you read these three stories, each wonderfully written in the style of their individual authors.

Granted this is not the winter season, but with a collection of stories like these in doesn’t matter; so how can I not give this book 5 STARS.

I won a signed paperback copy of this from the author on a giveaway she had on her FaceBook page and the following is my honest opinion.

Have you ever been or have known someone who has had no time in their lives for anything else but taking care of those who are near and dear to them, and putting all of their dreams especially those of romance on the back burner?

If you do, then you can totally relate to Adam Walsh, a guy fate seems to like teasing. Why did I say teasing? What else would you call having his father die, followed by his mother coming down with Alzheimer’s and losing the memory of her family, and leaving the family business in hands? What else would call when these things causes his younger brother to become so problematic that he faces being thrown out of school if doesn’t change back to the way he was before? What else would you call it if the only solution to Adam’s problem with his brother is the school’s psychologist, Rebecca Day; the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, who happens to drop by his bar one night? And to this add Rebecca’s job being on the line, by seeing if she’s able to rehabilitate Connor and the rest of the teens under her watch, succeeding here will be her only salvation.

Karen Rock has taken these somewhat ominous fate cards and has crafted a wonderful romance story with just the right potpourri of sweetness and heat; and a bit of jealously/anger when Connor see his brother in a tender embrace with Rebecca causing him to sink to taking drugs and drinking alcohol, without regards to what it might do to her career and everything should her superiors find out.

I loved the manner in which the author describes where the areas in which the story takes place, not because it’s the area where she lives; but because it’s the area that for years my dear OH and I loved going to on vacation twice a year, too bad due to various family matters we haven’t been able to visit for the past 5/6 years.

Will the issues Aiden has regarding his brother be resolved? But more important, will Rebecca and Aiden get the HEA they’ve always wanted? Read this heartwarming story to find out.

For writing this endearing story and for making me somewhat homesick to visit this area again, I’m giving it 5 STARS.

How can you wish on happiness when you are about to lose the only things that are important to you? Christie knows all about guilt and death so she tries really hard to help others even when it is too much.
Eli just wants to be a good dad and live life to the fullest, he is cancer free and he can't understand how Christie believes that everything will be okay. The more time they spend together the more he realizes that she fits in so well with him and his children but he is about to lose that so he pushes her away.
Christie can't understand why he has broken off the relationship, she is in love with him and his children and she was just feeling better about herself.
A great heartfelt story that had me in tears, the characters are so different yet they both want to believe in everlasting love and that they will be happy together as a family.
Cancer is a horrible thing it takes away the people you love the most and it destroys your faith and happiness. I am hoping that they get to spend more time together and that it is filled with lots of love and laughs. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Jodi Chapman has a real dilemma on her hands. A single parent to her 4-yr. old autistic son Tyler, she wants desperately for him to attend Wonders Primary, a school with staff that's trained to give specialized help to children like Tyler. The problem is tuition is $16,000 a semester and Jodi doesn't have that kind of money. She can't even count on her low-life ex-husband who abandoned his family because he couldn't deal with having a son with autism. To make matters worse he's looking to decrease his child support payments. Just when things are beginning to look hopeless Jodi's boss assigns her to a project that involves buying up farms for the company, Midland Corp., from struggling farmers in her home town of Cedar Bay, Vermont. If she can acquire 5,000 acres of farmland she will get a bonus and promotion that will enable Tyler to attend Wonders Primary. But in the process will she lose the respect of her former boyfriend and nemesis, Daniel Gleason, whom she left behind in Cedar Bay 10 years prior without explanation?
Karen Rock wrote a beautiful wholesome romance story of love, redemption and healing. While conflicts in life are inevitable, help can be attained when we're willing to look in the right direction and accept it. His Hometown Girl will tug at your heartstrings with its intimate look at autism, the value of close-knit community in times of hardship, and the realization that things are not always what they may appear to be; that assuming what seems to be the obvious is not always right.
If you're looking for a sweet romance read with a little conflict, a bit of stubbornness and just the right amount of love, you're sure to enjoy His Hometown Girl. I loved it!!

What I Thought:

This book is a great new style of contemporary romance. Yes, I know romance reads, based round sports, have been round for years, but this is my first one to read. I loved it.

Being a rather sporty person myself, and with my hubby and I meeting through sport - well, it was caving, but that is very much a personal sport.

With this read, I do feel that knowing a bit about baseball or softball, would likely be a plus. I played when I lived in the states, but it is not as common over here, in the UK. However, even if you know nothing at all about the sport, you will still be given enough detail to know what is happening, why it is important and how the two main characters could become so close. This is all due to the great, detailed writing by Karen Rock. She has given an excellent about of detail and character backing to make them very real and easy to bond with.

After all, if you are sporty, competitive person, you will know the feeling that Rock portrays in her writing. That pent up mix of frustration, passion and bewilderment that comes with finding someone who is just as competitive and very like-minded. I love that I could feel the passion, determination and inner workings of the characters. I knew and understood the turmoil that were in and the need that they felt. It was addicting.

I enjoyed every moment of this book. I am very keen to read more from Karen Rock and hope that more of her books consist of sporting based romance. It is perfection. Maybe a caving story next? I've got a good one ;)

In the meantime, I highly recommend reading this story. It is excellent. The pace is spot on and the characters are detailed and vert addicting. When you reach the last page you will want more, more more!

His Hometown Girl by Karen Rock
I have read some of Karen's other works and enjoy the reads.
Jodi Chapman and her autistic son are on the track to get him enrolled into the specialized school. She has a few months to raise the money which is twice what she has saved.
She hears back from Tyler's father who is getting remarried and hopes to have a perfect child and he's reducing child support. Her boss then wants her to travel back to her hometown in VT and acquire farmland and he's promised her a hefty salary.
Love hearing all about the strategies the school can provide for her son and it's helpful being a grandmother of a child who is a special class.
The story also follows Daniel Gleason who Jodie had just up and walked away from 10 years prior. He hopes to make a co-op with other farmers so they all don't lose their farmland due to bad economy.
In their younger years they always competed against one another and that's not changed since she has returned. She needs the farmers to sell the land to Midland so she can get the bonus to send Tyler to his special classes.
Daniel needs the farmland and is willing to try some tactics from what he learned in college to help all the farmers out. They do meet and clash ..... and sometimes even agree.
Daniels' sister Sue comes to Jodi and tells her of her plan to succeed at college and to help Tyler. Jodie and Daniel spend time together and the past does come up but can they move past it?
I received this book from Stephanie from www.romanceaddictbookblog.com in exchange for my honest review.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I rated it 4.5 out of 5 Stars.

A heartwarming second chance romance, Karen Rock’s His Hometown Girl focuses on the healing power of love and on the crucial roles that home, family and community play in all of our lives. Well developed characters, good dialogue and a child with special needs kept me turning the pages from start to finish. Set in a rural community determined to keep its identity through a tough economy and a changing society, Ms. Rock’s book made a lasting impression on me.

A single mother trying to do what’s best for her autistic son, Jodi Chapman needs more money than her salary and child support provide. Presented with an opportunity to get both a coveted promotion at work and a generous bonus, Jodi finds herself going back home to the farm community she left behind to talk the farmers into selling their land. She just never planned facing the man who broke her heart years ago.

Daniel Gleason loved Jodi Chapman until the day she betrayed him and walked away. Now she’s back and determined to talk his friends and neighbors into selling their land, which would ruin his plans for a farmer’s co-op. Prepared to do whatever it takes to get his way, Daniel never expected their attraction to get in the way.

The scenes between Jodi and Daniel are full of lively dialogue and plenty of emotional angst. While attracted to each other, their miscommunication from the past and their current situation makes trust difficult. Ms. Rock does an excellent job developing both Jodi and Dan’s characters both individually and when they are together. She also addresses the realities of having a special needs child and the burden it places on marriages and relationships. As the aunt of an Autistic child, I can honestly say Ms. Rock’s knowledge of the financial, emotional and even societal burdens facing families with Autistic children is spot on.

The secondary characters, mostly Jodi and Daniel’s family and friends are also well developed and contribute emotional support. There is also a villain of sorts; Jodi’s despicable ex who seemed to exist just to make Jodi’s life worse and who I personally wanted to introduce to my cast iron skillet (I really feel a good whack on the head would have done the man wonders…lol).

Will Jodi and Daniel realize their love can heal them both? Will Jodi’s son get the help he really needs? You’ll have to read His Hometown Girl to find out, I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of Ms. Rock’s work.
