This book reminds me of hanging out with a good friend - chatting about daily minutiae that has no lasting value other than the friendship developed.

It's not a highly thought-provoking or meaningful read, and I've already forgotten most of what Ray said, but it was funny and easy to get through. I particularly enjoyed hearing about her career journey and how she moved into writing full-time.

I LOVED Lincee Ray’s first book Why I Hate Green Beans. Throughout her first book I found myself laughing until I cried as her gut-wrenching humor caused me to FLY through the pages. So, when I saw that she had written another book, this one on the topic of love, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to read it.

Lincee shows us her 80’s roots in this love story to music, crushes, celebrities, pets and much more. I love that Lincee took a non-traditional approach to giving us a love story and injected her famous humor while remaining vulnerable and down-to-earth. This entertaining book continues to appeal to a wide audience, and while not quite as hilarious as her first (the music references were lost on me) her hilarious personality continues to shine through in her easy to read, enjoyable writing style.

Everyone I know likes green beans. Just not me. And obviously, not Lincee Ray.
Why I Hate Green Beans is a fun compilation of many experiences in Lincee’s adult life, shared in a down-to-earth, refreshing style.

Having laughed my way through much of the book, I had just told my husband that this book was not very much about God. Wow, was I wrong!! Lincee was just arriving at her crisis point. All of the sudden, I was crying and aching with Lincee, hoping she would find God to be sufficient. (She does.)

This book was very timely for me. It can be helpful for anyone struggling with how to handle hard times. As Lincee says,
“In the middle of a time when I had no idea what I was going to do, I decided to focus on what I did know. God is good... Trials will come...He’s got this...”

I highly recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and NetGalley and was in no way required to leave a positive review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.

This is one of my favorite nonfiction books that I have read. This is very funny and insightful. I love how she writes and what she says. I received a copy of this book from Revell for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

For those that may not know (because I certainly didn’t), Lincee became famous for writing Bachelor recaps, which quickly lead to her starting her own blog I Hate Green Beans, and ultimately writing a book. It is her book Why I Hate Green Beans that I first heard the name Lincee Ray. I was apprehensive as to how someone I’d never heard of was “worthy” enough of a book of her thoughts, life stories and anecdotes, but I cracked it open nonetheless. Despite my initial hesitations I was quickly converted to a “Green Bean Hater (read: Lover).” *Please note this fandom name is 100% of my own horribly uncreative making. *

Lincee is truly a girl’s girl as she attacks body image and every woman’s hate of healthy food choices head on. She also hilariously discusses singlism, kids and why The Bachelor is a horribly addicting train wreck (surprisingly the Kardashians are not also mentioned in this same breath). What initially anchored me initially to this book though was Lincee’s opening recap of her time in the Oil industry, as a true woman in a man’s world. I may sound like a broken record, but I couldn’t help but relate to Lincee on a deeper level as she recounted her struggles to overcome her female handicap, a handicap I too experience daily in the banking industry. Her ability to turn seemingly overwhelming situations at work into fits of laugher inducing comedic narrating was just what I needed!

Coincidentally, I timed my reading of this book as I boarded a plane for Disney World. Within Why I Hate Green Beans Lincee recites her experience as a Disney Cast Member. Stories including describing her next-door locker mate, Snow White #1, and Disney’s training to hiss rather than yell to get attention, both tales which made my experience at Disney even more enlightening.

I have not laughed this hard with a book in a LONG time, and I did laugh out loud several times (which made for awkward stares on the plane). Her writing is simply hysterical, while she eloquently maintains her down to earth, open and honest style trademarked within her www.ihategreenbeans.com blog.

This is the first time that I have heard the name Lincee Ray or her podcast, Why I Hate Green Beans. Now that I have been introduced to Lincee, I will be checking out more of her work and articles.

The best part of this whole book is the no holds bar humor that Lincee brings with her writing and storytelling. I can understand why she hates green beans. If I was provided them to eat all the time as part of the "green bean" diet, I would hate them as well. Luckily, my mom was not into "fab" diets. Well there was Atkins but she and my dad were the only ones to do it. They did not make or allow us kids to participate. Reading Lincee's quick summary on The Bachelor still does not entice m to want to check out this show, no matter how hot the host is. There are so many other stories and each one is a gem. You have to check out this book and no you won't have to eat green beans.
